Howzit Guys so Eskom installed a new meter at my home the other one died but the weird thing now is making no sense to me is the usage on this thing.

i normally do about 24 - 40 units a month depending on what run etc. but average we only about a 1kw ( once we home after 5 otherwise its 600 - 800w) every day normally sometimes more geyser etc. but overall, that's what we use give or take.

now it has not even been 24 hours and this meter burned 15 units??

there was no change in what my house draws and when we go to be the usage is about 400 - 800 with stuff on standby etc

this is with that Landis Gyr p160 and the outside meter E460 I believe.

is this normal??

would accept it if i was using my aircons but its off for a reason xD and geyser only have it on for 30 mins a day.

New meters use more units
get off grid asap
What?? No they don't magically use more units. I had mine replaced at the beginning of the year and it's pretty much on par with the old one.

Well just the standby 600w/0.6kw would mean 14.4kwh units a day

If we use 700w/0.7kw avg that would mean 16.8kwh units just for stand by per day

800w is 19.2kwh per day. The meter sounds about right.

You previous usage was very low, geyser alone should be 2kw minimum, maybe 1.5.

1.5 x 30days equals 45 units.
You dont use a kettle, microwave etc?

What size is your geyser and element. 100litre/150 litre and element 2kw or 3kw.

My geyser is 150 litre and a 3kw element. I used it for an hour a day and it uses 3units in that hour.

Maybe there was something wrong with your previous meter.

I don't mean to be rude but you seem to have no concept of how it works. The new meter seems more accurate, the old one seems like you were scoring big time.

your 24-40 units a month is going to become 450/500

Put everything off for an hour or two and see if the usage increases. I'm pretty sure you won't see any usage. So yes, your old meter was buggered and you have been scoring all those years.

Agree, you were scoring with the previous meter. Sounds about right now to be consuming what you are
