Is there any way to boost signal strength on a USB modem? It's Huawei K3715 attached to a desktop computer.

I tried the cables thing. It kept reporting RAS error 692, a minute before and minute later w/o the cable everything was fine (read 'poor').

I have seen with a wifi dongle that if the cable gets to long you will also have problems (probably to much power loss). How long is the cables?

Try using an 'active' USB extender, they are the ones with a bulge at the end where the signals get regenerated.

yeah, thats right.that's why she got error 692:cool:

signal boosters is your best option.how many bars of 3G do you get?or should i ask if you even get 3G? If yes,try the string at+cgdcont=1,"IP","internet" type this command in your modem properties under advanced in device manager. . also make sure your dial up number is *99***1# . disable the pin and do a manual dial up.

Thank you ngwenyas, but I'm actually a he :D

It was actually a single meter long cable.

I get two bars of 3G, sometimes three. That was before the antenna. Since I got the Poynting window mount antenna, I have three, sometimes two bars. :P

Update: tried the command, didn't have any effect.

Well, I got the signal finally stabilized. I found that I need to mount the Poynting on a window and open the window so the antenna faces southwest. I now get -87 dBm minimum, sometimes it can go as high as -77 dBm. It now only disconnects occasionally in the evening, probably due to cell breathing.
