Long story short hopefully.

I sold a land-rover defender donkey years ago voetstoots (Can't even remember when about 8 years ago) to an colleague of me at the time. He was gonna fix her up and pass RWC and register in his name. In the mean time he lost the registration papers, so I organised copies for him. He subsequently sold the land rover to someone else (an ex of mine to complicate the story) (the car is still in my name). They were going todo the same get the car RWC and register it in their name. Guess what they are selling the car on again to some unknown person and they need the registration papers and RWC document from me when I sold the car to the first person. (I never had an RWC as I sold the car voetstoots and the new owner at that time was going to get the RWC)

I honestly feel my best option is to scrap the car

Depends on whether you are on good terms with the ex. The scrapping route would make things mighty difficult for her imo and unnecessarily so.

I never really speak to her or see her except when it came to paying the yearly licence fees. Thing is I just want to get this thing of my back ASAP (We never split up badly we just were not meant for each other so no hard feelings, our break up was about 15 years ago), car sold about 8 years ago but it could have been 10 (have to check my bank accounts for the money coming in)

Transferring it cleanly as per ahoudet's suggestion is your best chance of getting rid of this.

Insist on the transfer being to her though...you don't want to be involved in this new mystery person's negotiations etc.

Not sure what the effect will be of skipping a party (your colleague) though...specifically whether SARS eyeballs these things or not.

Really not my field though so take it as opinion rather than expert advice.

There was no FICA at that time and payment was through bank transfer so SARS part should be in the clear

Yes should be ok.

Somewhat OT: Was think more along the lines of you transferring something of value for zero consideration. Sometimes SARS doesn't like arrangements like that. Should be fine though...plus you've got a 60k donation allowance per year if worse comes to worse. 8 year old non-RWC Landie should be below that I think?

I hope I have enough email communication (thanks Google) between me and the current persons in possession of the Land Rover dating back to 2009 where I even discussed the sale to the previous person. Unfortunately nothing between me and the person I sold it to(except for the payment by bank transfer).

I hardly delete emails nowadays except for obvious spam/scams, never know how it may become useful one day

Private sale?
If yes, then the RWC is the buyer's problem.
Unless the 3rd seller signed offering such. Then getting the RWC is 3rd seller's problem.

Voetstoots is still a legal term that can and will apply to private vehicle sales.

Go submit the yellow form, and walk away.

If you help getting the Reg document, make sure either the current buyer or seller provides the cash upfront.

**** that! Don't you think they're all just taking the piss? **** them. Scrap the vehicle or at least threaten to.
