Sup Guys

I am really thinking on jumping ship to the pc side as I gamed BF2 back in the day and loved my 900hrs of it. I need to play BF3 the way its meant to be played, so I need some advice on this rig:

Standard 400w power supply
CPU: AMD FX-4100 3.6GHz (3.8GHz Turbo) 8MB Cache Quad-Core
Motherboard:MSI 880G Chipset AM3+
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 4GB DDR3 1600Mhz High Performance RAM
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 630 1GB 128bit DDR3 DX11 Graphics Card
Integrated 6 Channel HD Audio - Included

The question is will that run BF3? I really do not mind medium or low settings but the frame rate has to be as smooth as possible.
How many local servers are there here in SA?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

PS, I am a noob

The Rig

All that for R4000...

Id say bump up the ram to 6gb and how much are you paying for the gfx card? cpu is fine psu is fine mb is fine(as in possible to upgrade cpu later) but add the prices and where you are buying them and gfx card id say get a 6770 from rebel tech cause bfs is quite gpu intensive

I am not sure hey, it's included in the price. I really don't want to spend more than R5000. I can do 8GB of ram but I can't afford a better graphics card.

For a gaming PC under four grand that can rock Battlefield 3, you'd actually have to consider spending quite a bit of money because the multi-player component is rather CPU-dependant. This is what I'd recommend:

Intel Core i5-3330 @ R1890
GIGABYTE GA-B75M-D3H @ R885
TEAM Elite DDR3-1600 8GB @ R394
KFA² GTX550 Ti 1GB GDDR5 @ R1169
Cooler Master GX 400W @ R507

Total: R4845

If you'll be playing on the multi-player side of the game, I wouldn't recommend anything lower than this, and you'd have to limit quality settings to medium at 1080p, with high settings being playable at 720p resolution, possibly with 2x AA mixed in. BF3 is a RAM and CPU hog in the multi-player and while smaller systems can get away with lower settings, its not a great alternative. If you were looking at saving more money you can look at the FX-4100 or the APU family (especially the new Trinity-based ones) but there's a good chance that they won't perform to the same level, unless someone who plays BF3 online with an AMD chip can pipe in with some performance numbers.

Well I would suggest:
  • INTEL CORE I5 3570K 3.4GHZ 6MB
  • MSI® INTEL H61M-P31G3 SKT1155
  • KINGSTON 8GB DDR3 1333MHZ MEMO
  • SEAGATE 1TB SATAIII 7200 RPM 6
  • THERMALTAKE 550W LITEPOWER PSU
  • LG 24X SATA DVD-RW RETAIL
All of that for R4800 (as quoted by PC Zone)

Add a GTX 550 Ti 1GB DDR5 (R1200) your grand total would be: R6000
You're most likely be able to max out any game with this rig. Ultra on BF3

For R6000, I think this is pretty much a beast of a rig! ;)

Ultra on BF3

GTX 550 Ti 1GB DDR5

Ultra with a GTX550 Ti? Maybe at 1680 x 1050 with medium settings, but definitely not at 1080p with Ultra settings. I'd consider it borderline playable, at best. With the performance improvements from Catalyst 12.11, I'd actually recommend a HD7750 1GB over the GTX550 Ti now.

1280x1024 on ultra: ~40FPS
1920x1080 on ultra: ~28FPS

You'd probably be able to squeeze out more with that rig.

Hmmm. I am probably going to be selling my rig for around 4k in a month or two. It runs BF3 on max settings without a prob.
