Hi, Anyone know of a good gsm sms modem.

I need to plug it in via usb into the server and have my applications send sms's.

The applications are written in .NET and some legacy stuff as well.

I have done this before quite easily using PLC's but the modems were hard wired into the units.

I have found quite a few usb modems but not sure which one will work.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks

ginggs should know, he is afterall how local modem hacker.

Most any of them will work. All of the Huaweis I have send SMSes. Coding them to do so may be a little bit of problem. You do have send these via AT commands and the text will probably have to be PDU.

This old resource remains useful.

for my final year project i searched for a gsm modem couldnt get a cheapish one so i just used my samsung d500:D all AT commands works on it.I had issues with the sony ericsson phones as some AT commands didnt work.but yeah just use an old phone :P

Thanks guys.

Does the GT100 use AT Commands or is there an application interface to it.

Either one is fine, but just want to know before we purchase it.

it comes with no software, you download the driver and then use it with AT commands. on their website there is a AT command utility tool to do testing and so on but really no use other than for test purposes. So you'd have to write your own app for it.

I used to have a serial gsm modem for sending sms's from my server but ended up replacing it with an online sms service provider (smsportal). I bought 500 smses from them about ~2yrs ago and i'm still using the same bundle. You send the sms with a http get request.

This will not be an option if you are actually monitoring the servers network connectivity or do not have a internet connection.

yeah, I looked into online providers but if the software is on a client premises with no (restricted) internet access then it becomes an issue.
