Hi Guys,

So a friend has asked for advice on a few device options of which I'm not familiar with so I thought I'll ask mybb community for help :) She uses an iphone but looking to change over to android but within a certain budget. Luckily she's based in Europe at the moment and has access to few other options to as in the Honor brand.

Camera is important. So the options are the Samsung S7, Lg G6, Huawei P10 and there are the Honor options such as the Honor 9 and 10. They all within her budget range. From the newer midrange, I'm not sure if the camera's will beat these older flagships capabilities.

So from the options above, which will be a better choice to get overall? Also in terms of still receiving security updates for the next 1-2 years or major updates if any? The Honor 10 is new so I expect there will be support for it.

(What are Lg's and Huawei's/Honor's policy in supporting their devices as in 2 year major update and 3 years for security updates for their flagships? If I'm not mistaken I think thats Samsung's policy or is it standard across the board?)

Thanks in advance :)

I would take the S7 or the Note 5 if you can get them (similar levels) and avoid the Huawei ones completely. Not soo well built, and it depends what other electronics she uses too.

Also remind her if she has an Apple Watch, it would only work on an Iphone. Some don't know that. Apples only really like to work with Apples. If she has a fitbit, the newer Huawei don't work either.

Samsung is still the best at Android, and Apples are well Apples.

I haven't come across anyone that's had an LG for quite some time.

The main question will be what you want her to have, or is it what's best for her? The S7 will do just fine. But remind her that if she has other Apple Devices it wont be easy. Also if she bought stuff on the Apple store, it wont transfer to the android store, etc etc. Apple is really a bubble environment, with no cross-support.

as she is in Europe, might recommend a Wileyfox? in particular the swift (version1)?

all the Samsung camera sensors, and all the Samsung CPU, but without the price tag of a equivalent Samsung,
and not sure if its something to consider, but a replaceable battery, one of the few left with that option, besides a Motorola phone like a G5

good on your friend for migrating to Android, she will see how much shes missing coming from apple.

Better to stick with the Older Flagships, the Mid-rangers are still not there.
Also consider the HTC U11 or if She wants to stick to the options she chose then the S7 or G6 is good.

Sorry my multi quote isn't working as it supposed to for some reason. Must be the browser.

Are you referring to the thread on mybb as it had like one post or another site?

Thanks for that reminder, I will have to ask her if she uses a watch and about the apple store. Its whats best for her as she knows her budget and which will suite her after changing over from iphone. Yeah apple is sticky when it comes to cross support. Thanks for the info :)

I'll ask her to check it out, is wileyfox running on stock android? I don't think the battery is an issue as its also sealed on the iphone anyway. For her its more about a taking good pictures, ease of access to in store support if needed in future and security updates. I think thats why she stuck to the bigger brands flagship options. Thanks for info :) Yeah lol told her so

The HTC is also a good option, will pass that info on. Thanks :)

The Samsung Galaxy S7 is already 2 years old, it's last upgrade was Android 8. Samsung doesn't have a three year update policy by the way it's more like 2 years at most.
The G6 is newer, but I'd steer clear of LG they just seem to drop support when the new phone arrives. So you'll get maybe one or two updates and then nada. The bigger brands don't do security updates due to their own changes.
I've had almost every OEM and the common issue is they drop you after about two years. Maybe she should look at Nokia which will be pure Android or maybe OnePlus or even Google devices.

And this is why I will never ask for advice on this forum.

Wileyfox went bankcrupt a year ago - stock floating around now must be way outdated vs new phones from Xiaomi for example

I read that also during research but I see they making some sort of comeback with STK brand. So will definitely give it a miss. Thanks for that
