Advice on BSc Comp Sci and Mathematics

You might want to consider a general BSc as well at Unisa instead of a particular stream. This way you can pick ALL the modules in your degree. Just make sure you include the necessary third year modules for the majors you want then work backwards, filling in all pre and co-requisites as you go. Then you can fill in any space with modules from something else.

For example I did a physics and CS general BSc, took enough physics and CS modules to get into honours for both , but I took many maths & applied maths modules as well
So for example you're saying I can choose third year subjects in comp Sci and math and add modules from applied math and stats. Can I add modules to the existing program of comp Sci and math. Isn't it better to focus on math at undergrad and bet on being given opportunity or the benefit of the doubt at honours level. Otherwise is it possible to add applied math and statistics to second year level to the comp Sci and math stream. Is this not too much work for a person who works full time

The streams are fixed. You have to take the modules listed in them, you may have a little lee-way with some electives but for the most part they are set.

With a general BSc the overall number of modules in the degree would be the same. You don't have to take all the maths modules unisa offers to graduate with a maths major, same with CS and other subjects. As long as you take the minimum amount of third year modules (5 per major) you can graduate with CS and maths and go to honours. Of course you still have to take the minimum pre and co-requisites required leading up to the third year modules. Any space you have left over you can fill with modules from other majors such as stats.

Whether or not it is better is up to you and what you want to achieve. For example since you want to go into machine learning it would be better to take some stats modules, which is not possible if you go via the fixed stream.
