Hi Guys

I want to start non-profit website to provide some information on the work I do which will help other people in the same field.

can you please recommend a CMS based on the following requirements:

1. Blog
2. Forum
3. Articles Section
4. Browse articles by categories
5. Articles need to support pictures
6. Download section
7. Search Function
8. Needs to be easy to setup as I have to do it myself.I know how web servers work but have no web design experience.

Thanks.

Drupal and joomla can do that.
Im sure wordpress can as well, but I haven't used it myself

We'll now wait for the backlash from all the web designers here for wanting to create your own website.

This would be a walk in park for any CMS

You would first need to decide on how your website should look (Functionality wise you are there)

Think of this in the back of your mind and have a look at the demo's of the CMS's then decide which one to go for

Think about it like this

Although someone will be creating their own site, Hosting and a domain name would still be needed perhaps also some help on setting up the website

I've read that Wordpress is the best for basic websites but will it be able to do all that's required?

Yes it will

Google as everything you require is either in core or just a plugin away

WordPress is my prefered choice. I have built websites with more requirements on WordPress without fail.

I would also recommend Wordpress for this project.

1. Wordpress does this by default
2. Most of the larger forum scripts can integrate into Wordpress, either via a bridge or other methods.
3. included in Wordpress
4. included in Wordpress
5. included in Wordpress
6. There are quite a few Wordpress plugins for this.
7. included in Wordpress
8. Wordpress is the easiest to manage, IMO. Updates, plugin & template installation is done online directly to the website.

All of these can be done with Joomla, Drupal and e107 as well but some features are not included by default and you'll need to find plugins which can do it for you.

What language are you comfortable with, .net / php? for .net use umbraco for php use joomla
