Hi,

My son will be starting high school next year at Wynberg Boys High School, and one of the requirements is they have to have a laptop, netbook, tablet or 2 in 1 device, but no specific models are given. They mention that the battery has to last at least 7+ hours as there will be no option to charge the device in class. So then a laptop is not really ideal, as no really affordable laptop has a long battery life, also laptops might take up far too much space on the desk. I have been considering the Asus Transformer device, the version with 4GB ram, 64GB storage, but from the reviews they mention the device is slow in multi tasking. But for school, work surely this should be ok? The students all get a version of Office 365, and they use Moodle, so I don't think its too processor intensive.

another concern is how Office works on Android, from what I can see you have to use the app, which then is not the same as the normal Windows application, so there might be some issues, or is this not an issue?

Any other ideas, options I could consider. They don't really recommend Apple devices, as they have had issues with them connecting to the systems the school uses.

In my mind, I would go for a well priced Tablet and go with a nice 10000mah-20000mah power bank to increase the battery life. Hard to find any device that lasts 7+ hours even with a 5000mah built in battery mainly since it will be used a lot. Have a look at the below link as I just ordered one for a work friend whose daughter was also needing a device and the price is really good for the specs and size. Camera is not the best but kids should not need it very much.

1) VOYO Q101 4G tablet - 6500mah - $99.99.

2) Voyo Cover - $5.99

Incredible disception has a click tablet. It runs windows and has a keyboard.

Alternativelty there is an Acer windows tablet/keyboard that looks like a laptop when clipped together. This will probably cost more, but is likely to be more durable

Then buy a 20000mAh power bank.

That will definately last the day

Buy two - the recharge time might make just having one impractical.

This is what was recommended at my daughter's school at the beginning of the year.
She used her tablet instead but then switched to a MacBook.

Not having facilities to charge devices in class is pretty shortsighted.

Apple devices were mentioned as being problematic, they have been having configuration issues with network and other things, I did speak to the teacher in charge of this.

Interesting, I wonder what the exact issue is.
