Mine was under maintenance plan, i don't keep them past that. But that said, what was NOT covered in the plan was expensive especially tyres. I had to replace 3 in the 2 years i had the car. Primarily due to pothole damage and with 22" rims they were hideously expensive.

That said, the car was generally reliable (Carplay a but erratic sometimes but a restart fixed it) and it had air suspension. I followed a Land Rover and a Hilux through some relatively rough (not rocks) terrain in it even with the 22" rims and it performed fine. Mud and sand in particular it handles very very well.

My. biggest concern would be resale value if you do plan to sell it quickly, and also it was much thirstier than advertised, though with 235KW on tap i tended to drive it flat out most of the time in sport mode.

On your other options:

Be careful with the "i wouldnt but this as its made in China" thing - a LOT of cars are partially assembled in China these days and completed in another country, Volvo included, and Ford etc. The standards are still very high from the owning company as they can't afford a bad name.

I'm not a Bakkie person, although a Raptor is something i would like to play with.

Now the Mazda CX-5, I had 2. the 2.5 and 2.0. They are EXCELLENT cars. Solidly built, comfortable, reliable etc. The only reason i got rid of both is what @epah mentioned - they're naturally aspirated and coming from a turbo you're going to be irritated at every traffic light as they need high revs to get those valves going. However, if non-spirited driving and flooring it is not your thing they are more than capable of getting off the mark. And i really can't fault anything else with them.

Ford Territory CAR magazine has given a good review and remember its new to our market, its been in others for a long time.

Then of course there's the option of getting a 2/3-yr old X3, Q3/5 etc as they're obviously German and thus superior to anything else lol (I say that now that i own my first Audi lol)...

Just get a Haval Jolion HEV slightly demo. Sorted out the trade-in value concern as they've already lost it, sorts out the fuel economy and the reliability is far from unknown having been around for over a decade but even so you'll get the balance of the 5 year warranty on a demo.

dont forget chery now has a 10yr 1mil kms warrantee

GWMs P-series as a bakkie option comes with a 10 yr 100k km service plan and 5 yr warrantee
 
If the kids are in highschool already in you got this far, stick it out for a few years more and pass on the T-Cross to the 1st one that goes to Uni.

We only have 1 kid in primary and the CRV is too small for holidays. You get used to space quickly and the urge to go bigger does not stop once you think you have "arrived".

Farking good looking. I wonder how good Mitshi keeps resale value here in SA? I really haven't look into the brand at all.

Pretty much the same as an x-trail. Those are the 6/7 seat options that fold away. Probably to use in a pinch.

For a R100k saving I would drive and fetch.

Depends who you ask but Mitsu in SA is exactly the same as Subaru in SA in the sense small market share & dealer network but owners are extremely brand loyal. Very slim chance of any "pulling out" imo.
