Advice on mobile device for child

Whats the problem with getting an email or Apple ID? I made email addresses for both my kids when they were little and they did not even know it. Something simple as just their name with a few nrs etc. Gertjie765
They did not know about it but was used for things like an Apple ID, their games and even during Covid for homework and stuff they received.
When they older I just give them the details and they can choose of they want to use it. Son uses his, girl is still too young.
My kids had phones also from around 6-7 years old but only really used them from around 10-11 years when they started having friends with WhatsApp.
And both of them know, till they 18 if I see TikTok on their phones, I take the phone. Way to many common Afrikaners on TikTok.

Oh and phone is a great way to get kids hating grandparents. My kids was every day bombarded with pictures and Bible verses from my Mother in law when they just got their phones. To a point where my son asked me if it would be ok if he blocked her

Thanks for all the feedback and experiences shared - I really appreciate it, and thanks for the spirit in which all responses were given.

So, since this morning, I have created a gmail account for him and set up the phone. For the record, the phone offers you an Icloud email address when setting it up, so the gmail was not really needed in the big scheme of things. All apps need to be approved by a parent before they can get installed, even the free ones.

He will not know that it is able to send or receive calls (Afrihost free e-sim connected), it may not always be available in any case. No relatives will be aware of this phone, thanks @Jean Claude Vaaldamme, I don't want to add any strain to grandparent relationships. Let's see how this goes.
