I am looking for advice on a cost effective way to access video content from a central hard drive on a home network.

I use a TP-Link TD-W8970 router, with wired connections to 2 Samsung smart TVs. Various laptops and smart phones also connect wirelessly.
- I do not need a mirrored drive, will do my own backups
- Would like to wirelessly save content from my laptop to the drive – high speed would be nice but not essential
- Would like to access the data on the HD from the TVs without running a PC.
- Want something that supports most video formats, even if the smart TV does not - if possible.

Would any of the following work attached to the router:

If so which is the best option, or are there other better ways to get what I want.

I found that the WD MyCloud to be very slow for file transfers across a network. The Seagate ones are a little bit faster. (I have one I use for backups)

I would suggest you Google for reviews on the products you are interested in.

Do you use an ethernet or USB connection for the NAS. Is it connected to a pc or directly to a router? IS there transfer over wifi involved.

I have seen some good reviews for the Seagate, especially regarding speed. Like this one:

Is there something else that will work better?
