Need some help with new parts choices...

My rig:

I5 2500k
MSI Z68A-GD65 (G3) LGA1155 mobo
MSI hd6950 twin frozr gpu.

My pc died yesterday and it might be motherboard that has popped.

I'd like some opinions on replacement/reasonable future proofing.

Do i keep my cpu and just replace mobo? Or replace both?

What would you guys suggest in the mid range for new board and/or cpu?not looking to break the bank...had my current rig for 4 years and was hoping to set things up for the next 4 so I'll be able to run new games.

Thanks for the help guys

The GPU will have to go. If you have the funds to replace the CPU then do it. If not it should be fine for a while still.

I would replace the Mobo if it is borked and the GPU (If you can afford it)

Core i5 4590 from PotterH on Carbonite (R1600)
Tx3 cpu cooler on Takealot
H97 or Z97 board if you can afford it (will support devils canyon cpus as well)
GPU definitely needs an upgrade.

Yeah the gpu Is Next on the list...been looking at a few gtx970's.

Replace you board, buy a new GPU and be as you were pre-crisis :)

H61 boards are still in circulation for about R600 and that i5 2500k still has plenty of legs left in it.

This, if you can get a 1155 socket MB somewhere then keep the 2500k cpu.

If you can't find a MB get a MSI H81M-P33 MB for ~R630 & a i5-4590 from PotterH over at Carbonite for R1600.

i5 2500k still fine, although I won't be too hard to sell. That's if you want to go "newer" LGA 1150(which doesn't really mean faster).
But selling your GPU, getting new board and GPU would be the most best course of action.

Must say the i5 2500k has turned out to be the most future proof part I've ever seen.

This!! i5 4590 is a pretty fast chip <3 Go for it! Sandy Bridge's so old

You can buy a processor AND motherboard for R17 more than just the motherboard you want, with 100% the same performance, meaning you can save R3282.

I shall be overclocking.and the chip was fried As well so was kind of forced into a new cpu

It's sad....I loved my 2500k. 4.2Ghz overclock without even trying...it was such a great chip

Was about to tell you that you are wasting money but if the cpu is also fried then it's all good, enjoy the new rig!

Yeah I didn't want to replace all 3 but I was forced I guess. The 2500k shall be missed:cry:
