Advice on PC upgrade

Thanks, taking a look now, nice site.

Would the 560ti be a decent upgrade compared to current card and the 275? I'm doing what research I can but the results vary so much. Using mostly HW compare and GPU boss.

The to shareware link I posted is the simplest and easiest.

Are you allergic to my links? It separates all cards into performance tiers so you can see at a glance whether something is an upgrade or not.

You need to go up at least 2 or 3 levels to really feel a difference.

If you want a quick reference. Just google like this:

560ti passmark
275 passmark

Will give you a rough indication of how much more powerful a card is.

So far the 560ti twice as fast as the 275

A bit faster than a GTX750, but a lot less power efficient at 175w, but still more efficient than your current card.

There are multiple ways to check but this is the quickest and laziest way.

My way still easier.

Yeah your CPU is still fine for almost anything. Anything from the 260x upwards will give you a massive boost.

I'd recommend this:

or

Anything bigger will probably mean you need a bigger power supply.

Just with those prices, i would recommend you have a look at pc international, it is cheaper for the AMD R7360 2gb DDR5, cant compare the R7250 cos the one they list is only 1gbDDR5 so it isnt the same.

should be the same for most of the other components too

Ive never ordered from them online, however i pop by their randburg shop whenever i need something

Yeah in my second post I linked to a 260x. Was actually a miss copy paste in my first post. Regardless though my advice of anything 260x upwards still applies :p

Thanks all.

Friend of mine will sell me his Nvidia GTX 275 for cheap. I think that card is slightly better than the one I have, not sure how it compares to the suggested cards as it is quite old.

Probably looking at a budget of around R2k for now, not much but going one part at a time.

Yet I link you to my GTX 460 and you ignore it?

I would rate the GTX460 at same price as GTX550ti

Slightly faster, but older and more power usage to bring it in the same price line.
Around R600.

Problem with 5 years old cards is that it gets close to that time when the soldering problem will arise, which would lead to a oven bake/reflow gamble to get it working again. GPUs probably have the biggest drop in value because of it.

Fermi is old. Driver support will wind down soon. It doesn't support G-Sync or meet VR requirements. A lot of DX12 and Vulcan support will have to be done through the driver in software.

Its just not worth it. It may receive performance boosts in DX12 because it has a hardware scheduler, but it will be bested by a card that uses a third of its TDP budget and is almost 60% faster (the GTX 750).

My two most favorite 2nd cards to look out for is got to be the GTX 550 ti and R9 270x
GTX 550 ti perfect for most popular online games like DOTA2, CStrike GO etc.
All the most important features intact.

R9 270x is just affordable, and power usage is at a decent spot, see one is going for R1700 atm at carb and you can at least play the next gen games with it somewhat decently.

Then it's the R9 280x but that's a R800 jump at least.

Thanks for the advice everyone. Ended up getting a second hand GTX570 for a solid price.
