Advice on speed needed for Netflix/Showmax etc

Hi guys. I'm moving to Klapmuts in a few months and thinking of dropping DSTV for Netflix or Showmax. Telkom speeds I believe suck out in that area so looking at going for wireless. What speed would be a good all-rounder and can you suggest a provider.

Was looking at 4mps from a company called Breedenet. Uncapped (200gig fair use) for R649 per month. Or they have 3mps for R499 per month.

I have been streaming netflix over a VPN for a while now on my 2mb line without issue. Can become shaky if someone else is also using the Internet connection. Runs much better without the VPN so if you're looking for local streaming of Netflix or Showmax you'll be fine on anything on or above 2mb if you don't mind standard definition.

SD for series is ok but HD for movies would be nice. How much bandwidth do you use on an average month?

I stream all my content, on a 4mb line. Generally either 480p, sometimes 720p. Currently averaging around 75-100Gb pm.
 
4Mbps works well for Netflix, streaming at 720p - when something else starts using your bandwidth heavily the quality will drop somewhat and eventually you will get some buffering. Have not tried Showmax yet, but the experience should be similar - although Netflix is apparently optimized better.
Some WISPs shape their traffic so that streaming takes precedence over downloads, etc - so in such cases your Netflix will slow downloads.
 
Haven't dealt or used Breedenet myself, but haven't heard any complaints about them. So maybe ask in the WISP forums about them specifically and find out who is using them and hows streaming for them?

I have a 6Mbps line and it works fine even if three people are watching on different devices at the same time.

I used to have a 2mbps and that used to be fine for one device at a time.
