Advice on Speeding up Server

Would love to hear how you are going to get pastel working on anything else?

Well for one I would have set this server up as a Hypervisor instead of a pure OS install and run them each independently.

Can't remember which Pastel is the "server" one and which is just the client version but if I recall it opens the entire database across the network link for each user instead of just pulling records from it.

Massive overhead and impossible to use on a VPN as well.

Hi guys,

I have an HP G6 server(2x Xeon E5504GHz, 10gb RAM 1TB 7200rpm drives) which a number of staff use for various applications, ranging from Pastel, Caseware, General File server, Mail server, terminal server etc.

The problem is that the Pastel runs abit slow(both when using it on remote desktop and if you have it setup as a workstation, reading the pastel files off of the server) this is because I have everything set up on our server.

What would be the best solution to reducing the bottleneck? Copying files to and from the server gives good speeds, but the pastel and Caseware Applications run quite slow.

Will a NAS help in this regard? or is getting another server our only solution here?

Any thoughts/input would be appreciated :)

We have the exact same problem with our HP ML350 G6, i'm running VMWare ESXi, I've struggled through many nights trying to identify the issue, and eventually got some experts in, to have a look. They took one look at the boot screen, and knew exactly what the problem was, as they have encountered it several times before. The RAID onboard RAID controller! It has a very small i/o cache 64MB, google'ing the model name and number, will yield you endless lists of issue re this. I've managed to get ours working reasonably in the interim, by upgrading the intel virtual netw drivers, and loading the correct VMWare tools version. Getting the quote for the replacement controller today.
