Hi guys.

Need some advice on what tablet to get. I am quite lost, no idea where to start, what specs to look at ect.

Budget is R2000 -R4000 (lower is better ).

Tablet will be mainly used for reference apps when on safari as its becoming lugging 10+ books around.

Thank you in advance.

Are these reference apps available across Android and iOS?

Absolutely nothing below HD resolution screen (i.e. 1080). Don't really think you to go above, but certainly not below.

The big decision at that price range is 3G vs wifi only, which in turn comes down to how happy you are to hotspot off your phone. e.g. I've got a 10gig (or 15 not sure) SIM in my phone so I rather piggy back off that then get a second one. Plus I swop SIMs by country so 2 of each is just no. Still its a significant schlepp - so if you can get a 3G device do so just to have the option. You'll likely pay a 1k premium for this so factor that in when comparing specs.

If the books are kindle ebooks then it might be worthwhile looking at the kindle fires. Personally I'm a little wary of them, but I've got a feeling that bargains are to be had if you're specifically looking at a tablet/ebook hybrid device.

What phone do you use? It's easier to stay in the same eco system i.e. Google / Apple / Microsoft

Currently samsung grand neo plus but I am upgrading end of next month. Likely to stay a android system though as I personally prefer it.

Make sure it has a high res screen.

By High res what size are we talking about?

10" is fine size wise but the actual screen itself needs to be very high resolution for the image/fonts to be nice and crisp even at close viewing distances.
