Advice on Vacuum cleaners sought

Some advice and/or suggestions needed from our wise women/men on this forum.

I am in the market for a new vacuum cleaner and had my eyes on the Genesis Big Green Extreme Vacuum with water filtration. The exorbitant price of R 5000 is just not fitting into my budget. The next best I came across is the Bennett Read Hydro at Makro for R3000, which is still quite expensive.

Any feedback on this machine, pro and anti, will be much appreciated.
Any other suggestions on vacuum cleaners, as long as no expensive filters and dust bags are involved, are also welcome.

I bought the much smaller Genesis a while back - much cheaper and more than capable of managing my house.
 
How much vacuuming will you be doing? Whole house carpeted, etc? I have the Genesis Big Green machine and we hardly use it. Gets used when we do a quarterly clean of curtains and deep cleaning carpets and lounge suite.

Rest of the time we use a R900 Hoover wet/dry... r2d2 - style!
 
Bought Hoover wet and dry from game for about R600. Works like a bomb
 
Im looking at getting the Bennet as well. There is a smaller version that doesnt do carpet/upholstery as well - just a wet n dry.
 
Also using a Hoover with water filter system, works quite well although the primary filter need replacement.

Great not to have any more dust floating around whilst vacuuming :D

What is the model name or number of your Hoover?

I am looking at the above mentioned one because it has the washer feature included.

Yes, whole house with carpets and pets.

Be careful of the cheaper units of any brand. They tend to overheat.

We went with the Genesis because of the warranty and free service or two that is included in the price.
 
Got an AEG/Electrolux machine, thing cost R1999. It works well but it hates the heat, it cuts out after ten minutes on a warm day.
 
Get a Kirby. They're expensive, but they last forever and they suck harder than a ... nevermind.
 
Don't they offer you a good discount if you uprade on existing Kirby?

I had a look again at the above Hydro at Builders Warehouse and the demonstration model was already damaged. The 2 clips holding the top and bottom parts together are very flimsy and not designed for rough handling.
A thin moulded plastic pin which forms the swivel was broken. It can very easily be replaced with a steel pin when someone is a DIY person, but that is not what you expect of a R3000 machine, even with a 3 year warranty.
