Advice on waterproof walking shoes

No waterproof boot stays that way. Eventually the stitching loosens and water gets in even if the fabric remains waterproof. So get whatever boots you like, and some waterproof wax for the fabric, and a tube of silicone sealant for the seams.

Could I treat them with some sort of wax/spray to make them water resistant? What would you recommend?

I usually start off with something that’s already waterproof, but if you already have those boots, might be worth trying.

Try in an inconspicuous place first to see if it discolours the boot (I must admit that style has been a non-consideration for me - all my hiking boots have visible silicon sealant on the seams).

Then apply fully and test it out with the garden hose.

Have never tried this style, but not what I would pick for international travel. Either you have to fly long haul in them (not very comfortable), or else you have to pack them and they'll take up half your bag. Also not the type of sole you want for rock-hopping style hiking.

Actually, they fold up nice and flat so they don't take up much space in your suitcase, but the point wasn't if you personally would want a pair, or whether or not they'd be suitable for climbing Kilimanjaro, they're not. The point was they don't leak.
