Hi

ever long time lurker coming out the woodwork to inquire about fx cards. Specifically, Im in the market to A: first sell my gtx740 and B: buy a 1060.

any ideas of what a 740 sells for?
and recommendations for a 1060. I have a budget of about R4500 (which includes the money from the sale of the 740 I hope)

1. No idea. But, I'd start with R800. A 740 is a low end card and not a new one at that. Try R800 on Carbonite.co.za - very popular South African classifieds site.

2. Have a look at a 1060 on Wootware. I'd go with this one.

Some things to bear in mind about 1060s. There is a 1060 3GB and a 1060 6GB. They are actually different cards - it isn't just the memory that is different. Do not, for any reason, buy a 1060 3GB. If you want a 1060, buy the 6GB.

Second, don't get tricked into spending more money to buy a more expensive 1060 6GB. You don't gain anything worth while. It won't last any longer and it might at most be 5% faster. Just not worth it. All of the GPU brands carry decent warranties anyway.

And, if you would like to consider an AMD graphics card, the equivalent card is the RX 480 8GB. Its about as fast. It used to be slower but driver upgrades have made it about equal. Up to you which you like, I don't think there is a massive difference.

With that budget you might be able to get something more powerful than a 1060:
