Good day everyone

Me and my wife is moving soon into a new home and we decided to drop our 6gb 3g internet to get some decent internet for a change but we have no clue on what to do next.

The owner of the new place states that their is an inactive telephone line but isnt sure if any tenants had internet before. According to telkom map i can get upto 10mb line in that house but it seems like i will only be able to afford 4mb.

Now how do i begin? do i first ask telkom to activate the telephone line and then go get adsl line rental by another isp or is it the best to start of doing everything via telkom?

I was also thinking of getting a home entertainment player like roku to watch netflix but not sure if it will work on a 4mb line and how much data you would need per month for something like that.

Sorry for being all over the place, thanks for the help in advance

Firstly you need a landline from Telkom. Which costs R189/pm
Second you need to activate ADSL on it. This heavily depends on your budget. Could you give us some info on what you're willing to spend PM?

Prices for ADSL Lines from Telkom:
2Mbs: R165
4Mbs: R299
10Mbs: R425

Next you need an ISP to buy data from. MANY of the ISPs in SA are scum so be VERY CAREFUL about who you sign up with, what the terms are and what the cancelation policy is. If you're in doubt, ask them and get it in writing or ask the forum. If you're wanting to stream, for a single "viewing" 4Mbs /can/ work but if you can, try and get a 10Mbs line as it will provide you with a larger buffer in the event you have 2 "viewing" or the SO wants to do somethin else on the net while you stream.

If you can give us a budget, we can help with deciding on an ISP and maybe get you on a good bundle deal.

If you can, the Telkom Do Premium provides you with a free modem, 10Mbs line, 50GB capped account with unlimited midnight to 7am downloads and is a really good deal (cheapest in fact) http://www.telkom.co.za/futurehood/home.html#do-Premium
