Hi Guys,

So I took a laptop on an upgrade deal at Makro in December 2018 (early upgrade). In October this year, the laptop stopped charging and wouldn't switch on. Took it into Makro for repair as I was told when purchasing it, it came with a 2 year warranty. Now I get told that the buyer purchased this machine from supplier X and they only come with a 1 year warranty and only machines purchased from supplier Y come with a 2 year warranty. Repairs are R11k and the best Makro is willing to do if offer my half of what I paid as a discount on a new machine. This means I will be paying for 2 laptops basically until the contract is up for renewal. I have the original receipt aswell. Its an Asus i7 laptop.

What's the best way to deal with this?

It is correct that some manufacturers only offer 1 year and others do offer 2 years. Unfortunately, it's out of the six-month time frame for returns.

Most laptops have a charging circuit which can be replaced or repaired. They are definitely putting a markup even if its just 3% on that price I am betting. Also, it's not to say the motherboard must be replaced.

If you haven't yet continued with repair take it to a reputable repairer who can repair charging circuits.

Contact PartServe....I think they do Lenovo warranties.

If they do, give them the SN so they can check what the warranty status is. If out of warranty try your Insurance.

rip off central,

probably want a nice cut from the repair,

id go someplace else and fix it privately. especially seeing as its 6 months later.

It's not cost effective to replace motherboards on laptops. Give up on it and just get a new laptop.

Send it to supima computers in randburg.

I had a similar issue with a dell laptop and they only charged R1500 to fix it.

They also don't charge to quote you.

Take the voucher from makro. Then take the laptop somewhere else to get fixed
