Looks like it might be one of the Poynting 3G antennas (or something similar).

The connectors are either SMA or RP-SMA, it's impossible to tell without seeing the front (face) of the connector.

The connector is a sma connector.
The antenna is called a Yagi antenna and yes it's used for mobile applications.

On the connector you normaly connect a small pad that you lay the phone on when you want to make calls. Some phones has a antenna connector but you need a pigtail converter cable to attach to.

Edit: You also screw the sma directly into most dekstop 3G modems/routers which is probably what it was used for.
