Aerosat, I read, is a Wi-Fi ISP located in Port Elizabeth. They offer uncapped 384kb/s internet for R300 p/m at guarenteed speed with NO catch!! But are their service available in Pretoria or just in PE?

Aerosat is only in the Eastern Cape as far as i know.

But there are a number of catches:
-non refundable R1500 installation fee which includes antenna that stays their property
-Heavy port shaping and most ports are even blocked (and NO they will not open these ports for you, so know P2P, no skype, no rapidshare, only browsing and e-mail.
-Not a true 384kb/s connection it is a 128kb/s which only bursts up to 384 for short periods
-Support if one has a problem is non-existant.

I am an Ex-Aerosat customer which left them a couple of months ago due to the above problems, I would not recommend them to anyone, so stay far away of them and treat other WISP's with caution until you have been able to check there track record.

PS. Anyone current Aerosat customers interested in semi-bypassing there port shaping for bittorrent drop me a PM.

If they're only in Eastern Cape then it won't work for me anyway. Are there any similar cheap ISPs in Gauteng?

Hi Beetman,

I'm currently with Aerosat.
They've just begun shaping rapidshare over weekends, as they've been doing during the week from 7-7.
I'm a premium RS account holder, so I'm pretty pissed off.
Could you give me some ideas on semi-bypassing their port shaping.
I appreciate any feedback man.

agree with beetman

go with beetman on this...dont touch those guys. I am with a similar bunch down the coast in Plett called xnets and their service and product sucks big time. Torrents are almost impossible and so slow its a joke. Regular time outs, secure sites a nightmare to work on, downloads breaking etc...

beetman you forgot about the Grid of R1500 if the normal patch antenna does not work good, then the installation jumps to R3000

not to mention the choking!!!! another way of capping their so called uncapped internet, cant wait for seacom man, anyone thinking of going on aerosat be prepared to only occasionally surf the net p2p bittorent and file hosting sites are blocked or shaped. and as mentioned im on a 1megabit connection and when im lucky i get 80kb per second take note they say up to 1mbit not 1mbit. im now actually using my phones 3g for online gaming as all should know online gaming is another dead end with aerosat. and dont get me started on their service anyone ever hear ok wel call you back. honestly u must be thinking why am i still on aerosat. simply coz i live on a farm and there isnt that much better aside from dialup and my phones 3g ( which is quite expensive even with the data bundles. Aerosat makes you agressive aswell. i do not wish my worst enimy the fate of having to use aerosat. Ok so now you know how much i love and support aerosat happy surfing for those fortunate enough to hav iburst or anything else

Its still terrible. I know from people that worked for them that using their services is a bad idea.
Are they still operating in PE?

Yes, a friend of mine is looking to sign up with them there.
But I'm trying to discourage her.
As far as I can tell they do not allow P2P downloads at all.

They do allow P2P but heavily throttled. 2mb line running at 7KB/s kinda throttle. HTTP is full speed at 248KB/s.
