Afcon to cost SA R400m

Hosting the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations is projected to cost South Africa R400 million
....

excluding Cape Town.

The important word is 'projected' - as in the Gauteng toll roads were 'projected' to cost 6 billion but the latest update is 90 billion.

I think national treasury will be footing the bill after most cities refused to put down a deposit.

this amount (R400m) wouldn't matter much if the R634m legacy fund already transfered by Fifa earlier this year after the hosting of the world cup would be put to good use and not plundered by Safa (suffer the nation) ....

I strongly object to the term "white elephant". In this post apartheid era, we must be sensitive to the needs of the repressed majority and we must always ensure accurate representation. Forthwith, I *suggest* that the term "black elephant" be used instead.

lol

I think the stadiums will be empty. Even the Bafana games won't be full capacity.

Some of those stadiums are not only underutilised but also face the long term danger of becoming white elephants
says the sports minister.

Well how the fsck about that? How some tunes have changed since the glorious world cup. And all those people jumping up and down at anyone who dared to question the viability of the world cup? *poof!*

They all seem to have gone away.

Typical I suppose - pitch up and make a noise and then leave just before it is time to clean up the mess.
