Hi All,

Apologies if in the incorrect section.

I am looking to purchase a system for a gift for a relative, now I don't want to spend a fortune but would realistically look to spend between say R800 - R1500 including everything I need.

so I need some advice on a decent system and everything I would need to set it up, current hardware is a 32" LCD and an HD PVR and a DVD player, mostly will be used in conjunction with the PVR, rarely with the DVD player so that is not as important.

room size is roughly say 25 - 30 square meters.

Will prob have more questions as we go along, and time is a slight issue, will be looking to have it setup by Thurday :)

Thx

Not going to get too much for that budget, sorry to say. Can pick up any HTiB but not going to give you the greatest sound although will probably be better than what the TV can do. Your other issue is going to be switching inputs. Cheap packages almost never have HDMI inputs and optical/coax for surround audio is becoming rare as well. So you might be stuck with just decent stereo audio.

You can get packages at the top end of your budget (or a little over) that have optical audio in (LG HT-805SH) although you would probably need an optical switch if you have multiple devices as these only have a single input.

I don't know whether it is appropriate or not but I would rather get together with another person and increase the budget to R2.2k at least. This would mean a semi-decent 5.1 set up would be possible. If you go uber cheap, your relative is going to remember you as that prick that messed up his lounge with all those cords for speakers that sound tinny. Don't worry about cabling, that can generally be picked up rather cheaply at most audio stores.
