Hey all,

I've heard that the universities do dental work for very affordable prices and I was keen to find out more - anyone know of such?

Thanks!

I personally wouldn't choose a dentist on price - I'd choose them on experience, unless you are really desperate.

Where in the East Rand are you? I got a root canal some 3 year ago for R700 and some dentistry last month for R150. Phone Dr. Nico Fowler on 011 740 0130. We've been using him since I was a small boy and I go back to him every year. He knows I don't like needles and don't use them at all. The root canal was done only with a local anesthetic.

Thanks all - not sure much about being desperate (I won't have a clown touch my teeth :) - but dentistry is VERY expensive and I heard that the Universities do this - and the work work was very good.

Anyone that has more info on this - please post.

Thanks!

I used to know a guy who studied at WITS Medical school and they used todo this for free sometimes. There's a train that goes from JHB to CT and they stop at smaller towns and offer this as a community services. He now works at the Medi Clinic in Edenvale but I have no idea what his rates are. Contact WITS medical shool and see if you can get hold of someone in the dentistry department who can shed more light on the matter.

Tuks does dental at the Pretoria Acedemic hospital... Extremely good.. Something like R 80-00 / session.. (not sure about price)

Stellenbosch University has a few student dentist at Tygerberg Hospital. My nephew lost both his front teeth in rugby a few years back. Medical aid said they won't cover fixing it. The students did it for free. Planted in 2 screws and capped on two new teeth. Great job from what I can gather, he's not complaining. I personally will think twice, they're basically practicing on you....well, practice make perfect.
