Hi guys.

I'm looking to buy a laptop that has moderate gaming capability, good warranty and not too high a price tag.

So far, the two options I have are:

Acer Aspire 6935G

-C2D P6400 2Ghz
-320Gb HDD
-4Gb DDR2
-WRDVD Dual Layer Drive
-512Mb Geforce 9600M GT
-16" Full HD Display
-3 Year Warranty

I have a quote for R14k on this one.

Hasee MT581 Notebook

-Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 2.4Ghz
-15.4" WXGA LCD Display (1280 x 800)
-Intel PM45 + ICH9M
-4G DDR2
-802.11a/g/n
-250G SATA
-nVIDIA Geforce 9600M GS -512M
-High Definition Audio
-DVDRW
-10/100/1000 Mb/S
-3 Year Warranty
-2 x Audio jacks: Headphone-out, Mic-In
1 x CRT
2 x USB ports (v2.0)
1 x e-SATA/USB combo port
1 x HDMI port
1 x RJ11 connector (Factory option)
1 x RJ45 connector
1 x Port replicator port (Factory option)
1 x 2.0M Camera
1Ă—Express Card"

This one is R13.7k.

I'm leaning towards the Acer, as it is a more well known name and the 9600 is the GT model, which I assume is better.

Do you guys have any other recommendations in this price range?

I got my Sager N2096 for just under R14k a few months ago:
P8600
4GB DDR2 800MHz
9600M GT
HDMI port
320GB 7200rpm HDD
Wireless a/g/n
15.4" LCD 1680x1050

I imported it through have2have.co.za. Go to www.PCtorque.com to select and customize a laptop and add around $300 to give you a rough estimate of have2have's pricing.

I know MSI also made some gaming notebooks but not sure how much they go for.

Wish I could import, but the laptop will be used for work hence the extended warranty.

Cannot afford to be without a laptop for too long.

How is Acer support in Cape Town and where is the best place to buy?

The higher resolution screen would be better for work...

I'd go Acer. Not sure about prices- check with the dealer okes on forums if they can better it (assuming the warranty stays the same).

if you had the chance to import,
the gateway fx 7805u would be a very nice option!!

2.23 core2 duo
9800m gts
4gig ram
17 inch 1920 x 1200 screen *wuxga
320gb 7200 hard drive...

= $1200

All the laptops in South africa are ripoffs!!!

affordable + gaming laptop CANNOT be used in the same sentence:eek:

with Gateway it can most definitely!

Alienware = very expensive!

Compare the gateway fx 7805U with the Alienware.

With regard to that add that sum1 posted of the gateway, I would rather import one with a 1920 x 1200 screen for R11500.

Still if you dont want to go through the trouble, it still beats anything out there!!

I just get a little bit sick every time I see the local reseller's price lists, and then how old the technology is we getting! To top it off, you even pay more for it than current state of the art technology overseas.

Do not forget the little macbook pro 13inch for the same price.

I also think there is Intl warranty on that one!!!

So what about the MSI laptops, can one get a warranty that will be covered locally on an imported laptop?

well back in the days when i brought my hp in TW, the warranty was global, even though it broke 2 years after the warranty so was absolutely useless...

I would think MSI's warranty is also global, but you willl have to ask.
