Hi there,

Anybody got a clue of a relatively affordable gaming notebook? Doesn't have to run Crysis at max or anything but something with a 9600GT or the like on board instead of the crummy Intel chips? Been searching for days and I can't believe there is nothing really available at those specs <18k.

Cheers for the help,
BB

The words gaming, notebook & affordable don't really go together. All the best though.

Well I might sell mine soon! T7500 2,2 Ghz with a push of a button 2,6 Ghz sadly "only" has a 8600M GT the 9600M GT is basicly a newer 8600M GT. PM me if you have questions.

Lol I suppose :affordable" is a completely relative term :D. At this stage i'm thinking of building a desktop into a suitcase powered by a truck battery lol.... at least it'll be cheaper, and have a 24" monitor! :p

Just looking at the overseas prices fills me with false hope, even with our shoddy exchange rate there are options in the R15k range. Was hoping i'd missed some cheaper brand. Asus looking lovely I must say :D

Oh and cheers for all the info and advice guys, btw anyone else know the pc builders from the uk who won best desktop and notebook of the year? Think I read the article on n4g or such?

Cheers,
BB

A friend of mine got himself a Packard-Bell. Nice 17" screen and I think it has a 9600GT (not sure though), and I think it has 3GB of ram etc etc. I cost him about R13k though.
Maybe pop in at your nearest Incredible Corruption and check what they have.

Is there any particular reason why you want a laptop? Because with R13k you can get a pretty neat pc... Just a thought though.

Good luck!

You should be able to get a toshiba with a 3650 for around 13k and an hp with 9600gt for 15k.

Yeah but Acer sucks big time they are loud as hell.

If I would buy a new Laptop. I would go for Dell and a LED backlight.

What I would want is a tiny laptop with a very high screen res and dedicated 3D hardware. Sony Vaios make similar but in those sizes their machines don't use dedicated 3D GPUs. A 2mpx display in 10 inches, about 1.5kg or less in weight and good build quality. Maybe one day Panasonic will make their
laptops do this but they only do business machines which means Intel Integrated graphics. There are some cute laptops from NEC though but
no dedicated 3D.

Those laptops you guys mentioned sound really promising. I need a laptop because I need to be able to take it to work and back for flight instructing, thus why I would like something that can run flight simulator. But I guess having you cake and eating eat is out of the question when it comes to laptops.

I was very interested in the ASUS laptops that have the XG docking station with a 8600GT in it, but why oh why they can't make the GPU replaceble with the desktop veriety I do not know. But I suppose much more money in ripping off clients for laptop vs desktop prices. Why they couldnt at least stick something higher range I dunno, cause an 8600 is still mid level even in notebook terms. Anyone more familiar with the ASUS XG docking stations? I Had so much hope in it :(
