How does one go about finding an afforable pharmacy for prescription medication? You can't compare prices online like we would do for everything else.

While the price of medication is somewhat regulated in SA, how do you know whether the pharmacy you going to is charging the recommended single exit price and adding the maximum allowed margin on top of this?

Do you guys trust the big chains or rather go to a smaller chain?

I guess for most, and myself included we just claim from medical aid. So we dont give it thought. But if your co-payment would be cheaper wouldn't you rather go to a different pharmacy?

I feel I need to be more selective with the pharmacy I go to, but it brings me back to my first question, how do you even compare prices or make a better informed decision on which pharmacy to go to?

You can check the SEP prices here:

As for finding the cheapest pharmacy, you will have to stop by each pharmacy and simply ask them for a quote. That's what I do. I have found Medirite to be the cheapest. But that's not always the case, sometimes Clicks will have one drug for the cheapest and Dischem another.

Thanks I had the links to those sites.

Why do pharmacies not have online rates for their prescription medication?

To gave to get quotes is ridiculous in this day and age. I think all thr players happy to just maintain the status quo at the consumers expense
