Africa needs a single currency

Has he literally NOT seen news on the Euro the last 10 years? Was he living under a rock?

fiat currency is a mechanism for theft

what Africa needs is a currency backed 100% by commodity money, something that Gadaffi wanted to do- and look how far that got him

I lean more to what Dawie Roodt said a few years ago- remove the borders.
I remember Gadaffi wanting that. He wanted the United States of Africa. He also want to be the lifelong president of Africa.

He was such a just and fair ruler of Libya.
A tragic loss.

Of course he wanted that. A continent dedicated to terrorism, lots of hot air being spoken, and suppression. He'd have as much money as he wanted to be buried in and as much power centralised in the hands of his family as he could grab.
Wonderful guy...which is why his own supporters killed him for it eventually.

He'd be richer than the equally just and fair Sultan of Brunei.
Only he'd have a bigger harem and more slaves. And everything halal of course.

Was it a better place when he was alive...? I mean infrastructure, how people could vote democratically, freedom of press and religion, employment stats and investment in the country...?

The Euro zone is a bit of a different case as well though. There it made more sense as e.g. Italy needs the Euro so it can keep debt at 0% interest, which means they can take as long as they want to pay it back.
Most of the Eastern zones can then also take on more debt while paying little to service it so it makes it easier. Cases like Greece are a lot rarer, and they could have managed it if they hadn't completely ignored the policies that were asked for by the rest of the Eurozone. For countries poorer countries in the Eurozone, it's good for them to be part of it is as it allows quite a bit of investment to come in that they would have otherwise gotten. One of Italy's major problems is that they keep saying that they want to leave the Eurozone, and their politicians keep arguing for it, so it does hamper quite a bit of investment that they might have gotten that would have helped stimulate their economy (They have had close to no economic growth for 20 years).

Africa as a national currency doesn't make sense as you need to have enough infrastructure in place to be able to service debt, and the African currency cannot be at 0% interest as then it would be too strong for export, Africa is reliant on devaluing its currency to be more competitive against the Euro and the dollar. How South Africa devalues it is different than e.g. Zimbabwe, it would be bad for South Africa to use the same currency there. What you can do instead is that you peg against the rand if you want to, e.g. Namibia to South Africa, as directly reliant on South Africa. But then you are tied to the South African' monetary policy, and for countries like e.g. Congo that would make no sense to do, the circumstances of the two countries are just too different.

you seem to be the expert, so you should know

I mean Gadaffi is dead for a few years now, so there should be infrastructure, democracy and all those freedoms you speak of now...

Lol...nope, you were asked to answer. You opinionated enough to think Libya is a hole now that he's dead. I asked you what it was like when he was alive?
That's not how a debate works. Or it does when pushed into a corner knowing the information you need to hand back is going to taint your attempted argument.

my only mention of Gadaffi was within the context of him wanting to implement commodity money, I did not comment on Libya

that was Pegasus and you

If this ever happens, this will be the single biggest tragedy that will ever hit the poor continent.

If the Euro zone has shown anything it's that it's very difficult to have a monetary union without some form of political union. It's ironic that for all their bluster about colonialism not a single African country has willingly given up its borders that were drawn up by the colonial powers. There are many countries that don't even make sense. Lesotho and Swaziland are economic basketcases that should long ago have been incorporated into South Africa. In fact I would even go as far as to say that Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe should be incorporated officially into South Africa to form a single country. That fact that we can't even get that right is not a good sign for trying to unify the whole of Africa.

Now I am asking you...you did mention Libya was a better place since his death. While that was a sarcastic comment, you opened the door and it is clear have no idea how to answer my simple questions!

you do you

Lol///makes no sense. Running scared from answering.

if you want to go with Libya is better now than after Gadaffi, then go with that, why do I need to prove otherwise?

if you want to go with Libya is worse off now than Gadaffi, you can go with that too if you wish

I have no interest in Libya
