@Angelo... sometimes I agree with your point of view, and the article wasn't that bad. But please explain to me how "Johannesburg International Airport" has a name that celebrates "the butchers of our people which is why we in unity with the world worked tirelessly to rid the nation of that leadership and now we shall continue to remove their legacy which is like a scar in our country's history." FFS grow up. If you post this kind of drivel, you're no better than the racist right wingers that generally rise to your bait.

Um.. okay but how about inventing the wheel, didnt get that right by the time we got here. but i dont want to be racist in a thread like this.. its gonna exlpode anyway.

The point is that unfortuanatley, Africans just didnt evolve or develop as much as many other did in the early ages, but it holds no relevance now, so stop fighting about it.

Also I think the article is okay, you guys dont need to kill it that much, like Angelo sid, there are positives too, acknowledge them.

Oh, and about the Airport, I dont think Johannes was such a bad guy, In fact noone knows whether he was, and it was named hundreds of yesr ago, why not just leave it. It is alot of hassle and money for tuourists and S.Afrians to rename our biggest Airport. For what? You truly think that the name celebrates the butchering of your people? Some other names do I agree, and must go, but Johannessburg Int?

What "p****" off the world at large was the names celebrating the butchers of our people which is why we in unity with the world worked tirelessly to rid the nation of that leadership and now we shall continue to remove their legacy which is like a scar in our country's history.
Jan Smuts? Jo'burg International? Hardly the names of butchers. Jan Smuts is an internationally recognised figure -

Jan Smuts: "He played a leading part in the post war settlements at the end of both world wars, and was one of the driving forces behind the formation of both the League of Nations in 1919 and the United Nations in 1945. As the foremost spokesman from the Dominions and Colonies his advice was decisive in reshaping the British Empire into the British Commonwealth.

As Prime Minister, he opposed a majority of Afrikaners that wished to continue and further the de facto Apartheid of the inter-war years. After the Second World War, he established and supported the Fagan Commission, which advocated the complete abandonment of all segregation in South Africa
."http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jan_Smuts

And this is the problem. And I lay the blame for this directly at Thabo Mbeki's door. Your rhetoric comes directly from the top - and the message could so easily have been different. Is this Nelson Mandela's message - or is he just a wimp in your estimation? (Please answer the question.)

You (Angelo) forget that not all white south africans supported apartheid - and it is due to their forbearance (and the forbearance of their brethren - in many cases their families) - as you so eloquently put it, "which is why we in unity with the world worked tirelessly " - most of whom were white!!!

Would you ask white Alan Paton, Athol Fugard, Breyten Breytenbach - and the dozens, hundreds and thousands, millions of south africans to apologise for their butchery? Would you ask Jan Smuts to apologise for his butchery? Or do you simply repeat the rhetoric from the top - much as the peeps in Zim?

Your ideology blinds you to the truth: I'm sure Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka thinks of you when she goes shopping in the Arab Emirates.

(and just for any who are in doubt - the original article was drivel - exactly why I make these posts)

Troll!!
The only good thing about Africa is the wildlife.

I wasn't referring to JIA but to the many names of people with an oppressive legacy that continue to be used today.

Then it's crazy to name one of most important assets after a guy who's hardly known when we've got so many heroes to honour. It won't be to a hassle to anyone, this won't be the first renaming in SA and it won't be the last. People will get used to it.

I wasn't referring to JIA but to the many names of people with an oppressive legacy that continue to be used today.

how about sticking to the topic. I say again, making this kind of stupid generalisation makes you just as guilty as the racists on the forum. I've just lost a lot of respect for your ability to argue your point of view.

hint: read some of tibby.dude's posts to see how to formulate an argument.

I've just lost a lot of respect for your ability to argue your point of view.
Conclusion? There is no point of view. Simple repetition of the hate speech coming from on high - the Great Victory and the Heroes of 76. A protest movement - which wouldn't have survived without the support of the WHITES (who financed the anc? - uuh duh, the whites. FFS.) The butchers of our people? Uuh, maybe we should look to the 3 million dead in Burundi - or the hundreds of millions of black africans that have died at the hands of, or due to the actions of their black governments. Witness Zim. How many dead? Will we ever know? (but it was a free and fair election.)

How many south africans die daily due to the non-action, hot air, and excessive lifestyles of our politicians?

How much richer would this country be with a government that looks to the support of ALL people - instead of their hate speech of the Great Victory?

I note (as do all forumites I'm sure) all the tip-toeing through the daisies, the picking of individual posts - with no response to direct questions (or assertions - or statements of fact.)

Sickening. Much like the child rape, the multi-torture murders and the rest in this despot country - then talk to us of butchers (or the fact that Jan Smuts was not well known.)

We'll ignore the facts; we'll ignore the numbers (fiscal and human) - we'll push papers around our desk - so much nicer than getting our feet or hands dirty - or perhaps spoiling our hairstyles. Lie - what difference does it make - we'll simply make it up as we go along - I mean - it's not like we have any intelligent discourse or questioning from our majority vote - they'll simply repeat the rhetoric (trolls that they are.) And we'll keep them there - by building no new schools, by having a shortage of teachers, by having despots in local government, by not delivering roads, power or sanitation. By having a rampant crime rate. How many dead in SA due to non-action? Daily? 1500, 2000 - less, more? Who knows, who cares. Who's counting? We got rid of the butchers.

Why do you find the victory over Apartheid so irritating?

Why do you find the victory over Apartheid so irritating?
Thanks Angelo for your response. There was no victory over apartheid - there was agreement by all south africans to do away with a sick system that was unworkable and demeaning. All those same south africans are living and hoping for a better country - yes it is better in so many ways - but it is also worse in so many others. All I want is caring and empathy and sympathy for all the struggling masses - same as I wanted then - but its not happening. 2 hours spent on some stupid speech is 2 hours spent not caring for this country - and it surely needs care. Shopping in Arab Emirates (or wherever) is not caring - it is the action of a despot - and until we get some discernment of right and wrong from the population at large (read YOU) - then this country is on a long slide to Zim. I am asking for your considered thought - not the simple repeat of the rhetoric. I am asking for your discernment as a thinking human being - I want this country to be great - not ignoring 600+ dead a day from aids or 200+ dead a day (or raped) in violent crime. I'm asking for delivery to the people. I cannot answer for the sins of the fathers (not mine) - we didn't put them in power and we did everything to get rid of them. In your posts - and the posts of our great leader Mbeki - is a total ignoring of the fact that any victory came from all the people of SA - and until all the people are acknowledged black, white, green or pink - then this gub is as guilty as the last. I am getting to the point where I equate Thabo's speeches to PW's - not a good place to be - and YOU are to blame. So - please drop the rhetoric (the Great Victory over Apartheid won by the black people) - What about the coloured people and the white people who financed this fiasco in this first place.

There was no victory - please get it right - and until the rhetoric stops - and we see some forward movement - then this government is as much despots as the last.

I will continue to complain until I'm blue in the face - and until YOU and this government stop tiptoeing and talking of the great victory (while hundreds and thousands die) - and actually do something - beyond paperwork - then we can all move forward TOGETHER - instead of the hate speech coming from on high (which is doing this country massive international damage.) The world has eyes and ears - they take note. Do you really think we live in a bubble called SA - where the rhetoric goes unnoticed?

So - let's not rename the whole country (except the absolute worst - and JB international isn't one) - and end up with a country none know, none care and none can find their way around. Cape Town, Jo'burg - never heard of them... but that's strange - 'cause here they are on my map. Pity. Let's go to Mallorca instead.

Catch a wakeup - your Great Victory is doing the country more harm than the nats ever did - and at least they built billions in infrastructure. What has this government done in 12 years - except ignore the body count?

You never answered the original question - is your rhetoric the Nelson Mandela message - or is he just a wimp? I'll say - no it isn't the Nelson Mandela message - now who is the greater statesman and human being - Nelson or Thabo - with his great victory?

Thanks Angelo for your response. There was no victory over apartheid - there was agreement by all south africans to do away with a sick system that was unworkable and demeaning.
The agreement was reached after years of struggle and blood shedding, the Apartheid government was basically left with little choice but to abolish the system. They didn't just wake up one day and decided to have mercy on Black people, it took years of suffering and compromise hence even today (9th August) the victory is being celebrated by remembering one of the many significant days in the struggle. Yes it was a victory and it will continue to be celebrated and to an extent I can understand why you don't see it as one because you were not a victim of the system but a beneficiary.

Most of the above I didn't even bother to read because it's the white South African's rhetoric that's becoming so familiar and pathetic, all of a sudden you are all good samaritans who want the best for the "people" but for your information we are aware that this is now the new front you use to show your disapproval for a Black Government since it's no longer Politically correct to just come out and directly voice your prejudice. The DA uses the same line. If you really cared for the people you would be mentioning the many improvements that this Government has introduced in their lives not just what has not been done.

In your posts - and the posts of our great leader Mbeki - is a total ignoring of the fact that any victory came from all the people of SA - and until all the people are acknowledged black, white, green or pink - then this gub is as guilty as the last. Can you show me a speech in which any ANC leader excluded other races from the annual freedom celebrations? How you can compare Thabo Mbeki with PW just shows your level of madness and disgruntlement.

I will continue to complain until I'm blue in the face
Good luck, we'll be here to witness the fun.

Do you really think we live in a bubble called SA - where the rhetoric goes unnoticed?
Of course not, that's why the FIFA President forgot about his standing and expressed his disgust at those White South Africans opposing a World Cup in South Africa.

Yes the renaming has only just begun, soon the names in this country will reflect that it's in Africa. You really are a shallow mind if you think the names in our country should be determined by what the outside world wants. Besides Limpopo province has had unprecedented growth in tourism since shedding tags like Northern Transvaal, Northern Province, Pietersburg etc.

What has this government done in 12 years?
Again I wouldn't waste my time with this, the people are way better off than before and they will aknowledge this in the next national elections.

You never answered the original question - is your rhetoric the Nelson Mandela message - or is he just a wimp? I'll say - no it isn't the Nelson Mandela message - now who is the greater statesman and human being - Nelson or Thabo - with his great victory?
What is this "Nelson Mandela message"?

The Boeremag and other organisations have expressed their frustration at the new South Africa and your posts have been nothing more than that, an expression of vent and frustration at having a transforming country and I really pity you because the more the country transforms and integrates the worse life will feel for people like you. So next time you bother posting long and winding posts just remember that your patronising attitude fools nobody. There's no place for Apartheid denialists like you in today's South Africa.

Wow some of the ANC fanboys really are living in a dream world. In their eyes the ANC government cannot do anything wrong. No wonder Africa is screwed up.

@Angelo:

Well - your response is declarative of the arrogance of the ANC today. That you should ask me "What is Madiba's message" goes to the heart of this arrogance. Your post is filled with hate and misunderstanding of our history and any place this country may hold in the history of the world and great or failed nations.

You write as one oppressed with shackles; firmly anchored in your modern perception of the evil of the white man while you arrogantly roll over the history of our nation and all the people who comprise it.

Your post is indicative of the non-caring attitude so prevalent in the anc government of today. It is also indicative of a view of mono-culture, racial supremacy; anathema to the people of south africa and our shared past and pain. Who are you to know of the pain I may or may not have suffered under a racist regime? Who are you to question my love of all people and their love of me? Who are you to so blithely dismiss the opinions of others, to assume the racist mantle by your attack on my post?

"I can understand why you don't see it as one because you were not a victim of the system but a beneficiary."

"Most of the above I didn't even bother to read because it's the white South African's rhetoric that's becoming so familiar and pathetic, all of a sudden you are all good samaritans who want the best for the "people" but for your information we are aware that this is now the new front you use to show your disapproval for a Black Government since it's no longer Politically correct to just come out and directly voice your prejudice."

If I had any prejudice to voice I am sure I would have posted it here - and here lies the gulf of your accusations against me. Notable - in one paragraph you state the length of time of the struggle - in another you accuse me of "a white rhetoric, all of a sudden" - here lies your misunderstanding and your unbridled prejudice against (a party) that stood for your freedoms when you had none. A party who fought your fight in parliament when you had no voice, no legal organisation. A party that consistently stood up against the oppression in this country, that published that story as it happened.

"Can you show me a speech in which any ANC leader excluded other races from the annual freedom celebrations? How you can compare Thabo Mbeki with PW just shows your level of madness and disgruntlement."

No, this is not what I meant.

"It is precisely because of these high ideals that we are able to celebrate this anniversary in a free South Africa. It is precisely because of these high ideals that the fighting youth of this country remain in the saddle, remain engaged in struggle, to ensure that we do not relent in our fight for the freedom of all South Africans."

And this is what I meant: all South Africans have their freedom, there is no fight - there is only the antagonism expressed in your post; in your failure to deliver best expressed by Thabo Mbeki in the same speech:

"As we recall the heroic struggles of yesteryear embodied in the youth of 1976, we must fight the evil that is turning our nation into a nation of monsters incapable of caring for its young. Those who kidnap, rape, maim and murder children have no place in our society."

He has similar things to say of the arrogance displayed by yourself:

"The Boeremag and other organisations have expressed their frustration at the new South Africa and your posts have been nothing more than that, an expression of vent and frustration at having a transforming country and I really pity you because the more the country transforms and integrates the worse life will feel for people like you. So next time you bother posting long and winding posts just remember that your patronising attitude fools nobody. There's no place for Apartheid denialists like you in today's South Africa."

Need I say more? Of your denial and hate for all south africans beyond your very small perspective?

Why do you find the victory over Apartheid so irritating?

Because every breathing moment everyone in SA wishes Apartheid was back. SA is worse off that ever before – point. No law no nothing.
Once Madiba passes on the real hell of SA is going to implode. The rest of the world is going to feast on us like they have done in Zimbabwe. Your land grabs and BEE is going to be taken over at a steal and all is going to suffer, to become slaves as before when the British landed. We don’t even have a defence force to keep back a shabeen coup.

Will you guys never learn…NOT TO FEED THE TROLL

Only the deluded beneficiaries of Apartheid wish it was back and as long as they still feel that way they will never ever enjoy their stay here, they better follow other bigots to Australia and New Zealand!
Once Madiba passes on the real hell of SA is going to implode.
Mandela quit Government ages ago, what exactly is he doing to influence where the country goes or doesn't go?
Your land grabs and BEE is going to be taken over at a steal and all is going to suffer, to become slaves as before when the British landed. We don’t even have a defence force to keep back a shabeen coup.  :mad:
It's not land grabs, it's the rightful owners taking back their land which was grabbed by the settlers. In fact the process is very lenient, how do you pay somebody to give back something they took illegally?

Leave if you are fed up, nobody is forcing you to stay!!

Leave if you are fed up, nobody is forcing you to stay!!
And there is that refrain again: the denial that SA is the home of all south africans. I wonder/assume this is the true agenda of the anc gub - get the whites to leave - leave us to run the country as we see fit. You have no opinion - it is not the rainbow nation - that was simply a lie.

Well, you are wrong Angelo - and anybody who expresses a similiar refrain is equally wrong - as Minister Nqakula so eloguently had to apologise to the south african people for a similiar refrain. Your rhetoric is not the recipe for nation building.

mod note: Please be very careful with this discussion not to attack the person, but the issue. The debat (even though it is generating some complaints) seems fair so far. I just urge every forumite who partakes in this discussion to please be VERY careful to attack issues and not people.

Race and Apartheid will always be a contentious issue in our country, but I think it is very healthy to let people discuss it without fear. We need more open discussions like this.

Remember to play the ball and not the man...
