I have been waiting for Afrihost to start selling their 384 uncapped. I checked this morning and it's available, I signed up and my torrents are now chugging away at around 30kB/s.

Just thought i'd post this for anyone else waiting for Afrihost's slower uncapped packages.

I wonder if it is slow because you are using it in business hours, and maybe P2P usage is throttled in peak times. Would your download speed increase after say 7 or 8pm?

here is what might be a stupid question, but still one i would like to know the answer to, they told us all now that the shaped uncapped account is going to be slower than the normal capped accounts, thats fine, but lets say i have a 384k line and i buy the 512k account, will my 384 still run at slower speeds or will i be able to browse and download at my 384 line's full speed?

What is the browsing experience like? Mweb seems much slower. How is Afrihost?

Well, 30kB/s isn't too badly shaped especially if he/she is on a 384 line :erm: Not ideal though...

Browsing is ok, not fantastic though. Some stuff like gmail seems to take alot longer to load than usual. But youtube and some other international stuff seems quick.
Before this morning i have been using Afrihost pre-paid and since they launched uncapped that has been quite slow. If anything, the 384 uncapped is quicker or the same (for browsing and dl) than the prepaid has been during the last week.

AFAIK they were out since late last week

They weren't, last week they only released the 4096 package last week.

Good to see them releasing these. Gian is so cool, I will stick with Afrihost for now, their service is great.

They were out on Friday.

I'm looking at Afrihost's uncapped option for the 384k line (have to get Neotel out of my life) and I'm just wondering if the line rental stated on the page covers the ADSL rental as well as the telephone line rental?

You are still going to pay the odd R134 or whatever it is these days. So nope.

So then the cost would be as follows?

Afrihost uncapped data R197 + ADSL line rental R152 + Telephone line rental of roughly R135 = R 484

Well that beats paying R499 for a 5gig package which rarely does more than 35kb/s :wtf:

As far as i know its R131 for phone line rental. But thats right, 197 + 152 + 131 = uncapped 384k :D
