I've read some comments talking about painfully slow downloads after hitting 10gb... I am on 9.2gb at the moment and I'm wondering if anyone can tell me whether ALL download speed is affected, or if it's only torrents, rapidshare etc. while browsing and general http is still fine.

Also, could you please post your speedtest results and usage if you've done more than 10gb on Afrihost's 384 uncapped. Cheers.

By all accounts everything is affected. Go read the myriad of Afrihost threads that already exist and you will see this.

See this thread for details

http was throttled as well as all the other stuff. 384 uncapped, i used 15Gb's.

My speedtest showed 0.07 down and 0.11 up. Test was taken on sunday morning and sunday evening.

Below feedback i received from afrihost support, I asked about the throttling of my account and if i could cancel

Hi there XXXX

Trust you are well :)

Thank you for the email. Your account is been throttled, this
happens after the first 10GB of usage.
To cancel your subscription with us, you can log in to the Client Zone(https://clientzone.afrihost.com/).
Once logged in, click on > My Products > "My Connectivity". Here you will be able to cancel your subscription with us, by clicking on the cancel icon.
Please note that there is a month notice period for the cancellation.

Thanks and take care :-)
Have a great day & please feel free to let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Warm regards.

Afrihost's scheme of traffic control on their "uncapped" account is a complete abomination. Completely idiotic, as they will discover towards the end of the month when they have a totally underutilized network and an angry crowd of throttled soon-to-be-ex-clients.

And the really bad thing is that they have stopped listening. They've even stopped responding.

I phone them. Once you hit the threshold they officially throttle you down to 70kbps.

I've already moved from them. It's quite sad that i'm paying double for data this month. R400 down the drain.

I leaving Afihost as well downloaded 15 gig and cannot get anymore I moving to Mweb hopefully there is no throttle there. I challange Afrihost respond here. This sucks

What's the GB threshold for 512k? And what speeds will you be limited to?

This doesn't look pleasing at all, and as much as I regret having to leave them, I will do so if need be. I have no loyalties to an ISP, my decision to remain a client needs to be earned.

Eish... 70kbps... that's pretty terrible :( I'm very surprised and disappointed at the lack of feedback from them. Why can't they change the FAQ on their site?

That would mean people knowing about their dealings upfront, not good for business. Lie rather get the business and then hope people accept it.

I am also leaving them and going to MWEB.

If I cancel now will I still be able to use it until the end of the month?

Also got throttled once i hit 10GB. Absolutely pathetic how they stole a months worth of money from everyone. Is there any legal action we can take as i have demanded a refund but none is forthcoming!!

well i am on 19gb for this month on 384 AH uncapped and so far no throttling.......... lets hold thumbs

I've just passed 15GB on a 384 line, also with no apparent throttling so far...

I wonder if - based on the number of 4Mbps users in these forums who have said that they're leaving - AH are seeing significant numbers of heavy users leaving and what implications this would have in terms of them relaxing the throttling policies...?

Same throttling here. While I find the lack of refunds for their absolutely abysmal service unsettling, what I really find disturbing is that they are now mentioning their one-month-notice cancellation policy to some users. It seems as though they plan to charge us for next month as well if we cancel now.

I'm in exactly the same boat as you! I'm also demanding a refund! But all my emails to them are suddenly ignored after I asked them for Gian's email address!

Good choice, MWEB's shaping at least has decent prioritization, so even if you're downloading torrents, it gives immediate way to HTTP/FTP/EMAIL etc and then pops back up with your torrent speed later. Obviously torrents are more shaped during the day, but at about 11pm at night they start flying. Unlike any other ISP out there (including Web Africa). I can see how my torrent speed "dies" when I browse/do email and pops back up when it goes idle and I'm not doing anything else. Keeps my experience nice & fast and I download away. Averaging about 2gb a day now

So this is what it works out to be:
384kbps=10GB threshold(R19.70 a GB)
512kbps=15GB threshold(R19.80 a GB)
4096kbps=30GB threshold(R16.56 a GB)

This means if you go for 512kbps on your 384 line you will save a whole R0.10 a GB or R1.50 in all!

It seems Mweb are the best way to go! I have a 512kbps account with Mweb and have downloaded 38.48 GB so far this month and last month from the 25th to the 31st I downloaded 41GB!

The extra R20 is worth it :)

On the phone to MWEB right now getting my details, once that's done, i am pressing "Client Zone" & "Cancel account"
