Hey guys,

I am currently on mweb 1mb with my line through telkom and I want to upgrade to the Afrihost 4mg deal.

I would just like to hear from the people who are already on this deal reagarding downloading. I am what I think can be considered a "Heavy downloader" and want to know if I am going to get shaped after say the first 100gb of torrents I download.

If this is the case I will probably just upgrade to OpenWeb gold 1mb.

Also since my line can support 4mb/s and im currently on 1mb/s, if I dont upgrade to afrihost 4mb will I be able to switch to OpwnWeb 2mb/s and get telkom to increase my line to 2mb/s? If so what will the extra line rental cost be?

Thanks in advance guys :)

I have Afrihost 4meg uncapped...and pull about 150gigs a month...and have never had an issue with being "throttled" at all...

after 250gb on 4 mbps from afrihost you will be throttled to something like 2 mbps

Why not just stay with MWEB and upgrade your account to 2meg when your line gets upgraded?

Mikrouwel bud. MWEB 4mb is good and you don't have to wait 5 minutes for the youtube vids to stream. I know you stream a lot though. :P I'm on their 4mb Uncapped and it is sailing like a little boat on a fast downstream river. Hope you come right.

I am quite happy with the service although I wouldn't say I'm a heavy downloader anymore. I have done 107GB this month so far and speeds have been great.

Im not saying mweb 4mb is bad because ive never used it. Im saying my 1mb mweb is bad and I would upgrade to mweb 4mb but its quite abit more per month.

The price is a bit steep yes, I agree with you on that. I only pay for the data from Mweb and the dad is paying the other half, so I score a bit though. lol.

That is odd, I'm also on MWEB 1M uncapped and have none of the issues you have. It works as advertised 99% of the time. The other 1% is typically when seacom is down...

Because MWEB's 2M deal is R70 more expensive than Afrihost's. That's almost 25% more, and I'm not convinced anymore that Afrihost's uncapped is that much worse than MWEB's.

Do you get 4M on all your streams? I heard that they limit you to ~2M per stream, but if you have 2 streams (ie. 2 differernt downloads, or multi-threaded download) you still get 2M per stream for a total of 4M.

Right now I'm getting 5mb/sec on my 4mb account (because of my line syncing at 10mb), so the speeds are quite good. Pings are excellent, too. I would recommend Afrihost now that they got that IS problem out of the way ;)

Just a note, I think you need to give Mweb a months notice before your account is officially cancelled. (At least the last time I checked)

Been on an Afrihost 4mb and its absolutely perfect, great speeds and I haven't noticed any throttling or shaping.

I am at 200 gb an still no throttling, they halve your speed at 250gb to 2mb/s.
