after numerous emails to afrihost concerning my 4mb line doing dial-up speed this is the email i received back:

HI there Brad

Trust you are well :)
Thank you for the mail.

Kindly note that because you have used over 100GB last month and this month you are close to 60GB, therefore you are considered as a high user. So if the network is congested or busy at a certain time of day then you will be throttled first as to protect the other users on the network. As the network gets quieter again then your line speed will pick up. Hope this helps you.

Thank you and take care :)
Have a great day & please feel free to let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Warm regards.

Shakeel :-)

this is ridiculous, iv heard of guys doing 500gigs and being considered hgh users. but 60gigs,
on a 4mb line........
i dunno if this is a joke but i have nothing more to say to them, i will wait patiently for my "cancellation pending" to go through then i will be happy to go anywhere else.

We've been saying it all along mate, MWeb....

MWEB will suit you alot better.

I was with Afrihost, along with work colleagues / friends as well. We all got nailed around the 40-60 gig mark somewhere( can't remember exactly ).

Most of us are at MWEB now, and are pretty happy there.

With Afrihost, you will get full speed / unshaped until you reach an unknown threshold, but once you hit that threshold, you going to struggle.

With thier T&C's as they now stand, you'll be happy enough with Mweb with that kind of useage unless you bypass thier shaping or leave your torrents running 24/7. Both of those activities have been known to peeve them off a bit.

100GB a month is about 2 or 3 hours of downloading in the evenings.

Technically though, on an account with a contention ratio of 40:1 anything over 25GB a month puts you in the "above average" user category, so 100GB is 4 times the maximum average for such an account...

I reckon Afrihost are okay if you've just got a 384k line and only downloading at night: at that way you'll only be doing about 30gb a month. Anything more than that (even if you've got a 4 meg line) and they'll start nailing you to the floor.

i dont understand how people can make do with anything less than 300gb per month, it baffles me

What exactly is it you think your average user does on the internet? Stream and download HD video 6 or 7 hours a day?
