I was downloading 11Gb of software from MSDN when something happened. All the downloads suddenly broke and there is no resume. I have thrown away 5.5Gb and I am NOT impressed. Afrihost - can anyone comment? My router shows that it is still up.

Not the fault of afrihost, you need a decent download manager for large files.

lol.

/lol again

/lol some more

please tell me which isp is going to "refund" your bandwidth as all of them have no power over IS/SAix not to mention sat3,safe or seacom's uptime and overall throughput...

this is not afrihost fault....
that said, whenever you download large files you need to use a download manager- I normally use opera when downloading large files as it has a built in download manager that has saved me a few times from this exact thing

Should have used a download manager. Why would an ISP have a resume feature for your download. AFAIK they shouldn't even know what you are downloading, amirte?

Don't the MSDN downloads go through the built in MS download manager (ActiveX control)? I've only ever used that for MSDN downloads... and it has resume.

yep and it can resume. how i've been doing it for long time.

the OP can't except the ISP to be able to move heaven and earth, especially in a country where dsl isn't a guaranteed the science.

I have noticed recently on random occasions I would lose internet connectivity for a minute or two with Afrihost.
I’d be browsing and all of a sudden every site I try visit is unavailable. After a minute all is fine. Happened this morning and last night.
The router shows connected throughout the ordeal.
My download manager always saves me from disaster.

Try another ISP (axxess etc) but prepaid, if possible, and see if the problem persists.

If the problem do persist, then it might be your line, or some other external factor.

Oh my soul, Afrihost (a South African ISP) must pay because Microsoft ( a US software company) does not support resume?

Anyway, Necuno has made the effort create a topic where all Afrihost issues must be posted, so that Afrihost reps have a centralised location to see reports on issues, and fix them. It is here:Afrihost issues that needs to be sorted out...

Perhaps its an IE thing... I'll see if it works in IE, but downthemall in FF does not allow resume on the files.

Relax dude, I won't make Afrihost pay so it won't filter down to their clients in the long run and so you will be able to eat next month.
What I want to know is if it is an Afrihost issue or not since downloads were killed and speeds dropped to 25kbps from 400kbps... I trust Akamai more than Afrihost's upstream provider and as such suspect it was an Afrihost / Seacom / IS provider glitch. Having said that, I'm not anticipating doing anything about it at R14-50 per gig, I just wanted to rant and find out.

Yeah, I think I might. Hopefully I can try the activex control in IE and see if it resumes... :( bleah
