Just in case anyone else is trying to sign up for the eSim option, it does not work on iPhone SE 2020 despite the iPhone being eSim compatible.
I tried twice and have wasted a ton of time with Afrihost support. MTN issue or compatibility it seems, not Afrihost's fault.

But they can pressure MTN to fix it.
Been there done that? That's why I said MTN can't fix it.
This is not an overnight thing. It's been a problem since I signed up on 6 Feb. The Afrihost latest support ticket suggests cancelling and re-ordering physical sim.

Besides. Asking MTN to fix anything is like pulling teeth. Afrihost will know that better than us.

Did you make sure Volte is on?
Why would VOLTE fix anything?
I should be able to make calls with mobile data on or off. I couldn't use the internet, couldn't make calls. Full signal strength...
The voice on the other end of the line when making calls wasn't "You forgot to turn on volte" it said "Your service has been suspended"... and MTN couldn't understand why.

Okay i must have missed the part about getting a message saying the line is suspended.

I said that because I recently bought a RAIN voice sim and it could not make calls, receive calls nor SMS. After some investigation i was told to enable Volte. I did, and it now works fine and can make calls, receive etc.

That's quite weird. I was under the impression providers didn't require LTE or other data channels to make calls.
