Afrihost and console gaming: what is brewing...?

Each ISP routes traffic differently, some ISP's may use the SACS cable some might not.
Each ISP does things differently

Yeah.

I contacted Afrigirl. Hopefully she can get to the bottom of this when she returns.

Maybe it was just a coincidence that a change of IP addr could lead to an even greater deterioration in network performance...? I see now that I am back to being 'limited' to a max download of 27Mb/s like it was after receiving my new IP. At least that is better than 250Kb/s  But I am not upgrading to the 100Mb/s package just to game. I'd rather cancel my connection with Afrihost.

One would expect that the public facing support staff would have been alerted to possible influx of calls from console gamers due to network issues beyond Afrihosts' controll...

Enuf speculation! I'll await a response from Afrigirl.

Appear oh goddess of the network!
I beseech thee to grace my console with thine divine provinance
Bestow thy gifts of excellent latency
Banish bad connections
Find all lost packets
Bringing joy to mortal gamers
Amen!

And another IP was allocated.

Seems like my devices are back to normal. Switch still behaving erratically. Speeds now hover between 27Mb/s and 32Mb/s [in the past used to get high 30s]. Weirdly its more 27Mb/s...

I checked the status of Nintendo Servers: they're all normal. Status

Afrigurl stated to me that there are issues with their NAT Box.

Thanking you MakoPC for your eagerness and willingness to assist me in my quest to terrorise the kids on Fortnite in the best way possible!

I searched for Nintendo's game specific servers, I can't seem to find anything useful. I dunno how to find and identify these...

Do I have double NAT issues...? I kinda think I know what this is. Only found out about this now, so not sure...?

Can someone please advise:

I see under [WAN Information] in the Router that for IPv4 Address I have 100.x.x.x
On Switch when I do a speedtest, my Global IP Address: 102.x.x.x

I this 'normal'?

Yes that is normal, you are behind a CGNAT (Carrier Grade NAT) The IP 100.x.x.x is your actual IP
Could you install Ping Plotter and run it for a while and send a screenshot

Hi

That trace route looks good. We resolved the issue with the NAT that we had. What DNS servers are you using?
Oh has the NAT box for CPT been fixed? Was about to jam some games and was wondering about getting some packet loss mid way

Still getting packet loss at the same times it seems :(

I think on PC I might be using Cloudflare...?
msg from PC journal: Switching to fallback DNS server 1.1.1.1

Not using DNS servers on Switch. DNS Settings on Switch: Automatic
I have experimented with DNS settings on Switch [google and cloudflare]: it's just a waste of time.

And I'm still sitting with what seems to be a max of 27Mb/s DL speed...

Rundown of what happened:
- Complained about high latency. During that time my speeds were still fine.
- My IP address was changed. Router got reset without my knowledge . WiFi passwords got changed without my knowledge  . Since that time everything went down the drain.
- Was told I need to get the 100Mb/s package as 40Mb/s is not viable for gaming... ... ...
- Was assigned 2 new IP Addresses: no effect.
- Was informed about issues with NAT box.
- NAT issues resolved.
- Things still the same.

Gaming from ~19:00 is virtually impossible (up to 40% packet loss according to Fortnite debug stats)

If it is gaming from 7pm that is peak hours, that sounds like congestion on the FNO side

What area are you in?
Your FNO is Vumatel correct?

- is anyone going to explain the significance of Vumatel/Vuma Reach? Is it the bane of FNOs? Is Afrihost, and by extention me, held hostage?
- do i have to give up on my dream of reaching the 2 500 000th rank in Fortnite as a Switch player?
- who killed JR?

So many questions...
