Hi guys

I have convinced my friend to join aftihost for the cheap mobile data but he is experiencing a weird issue.

Throughout the day, the phone will automatically deselect the aftihost apn and default to the mtn apn and use all of his airtime. This happens randomly and also when he restarts his phone.

He has the LG Leon running lollipop. I have tried deleting the mtn apn but it is locked.

My thoughts so far are:
1) Root the phone and find a way to delete the apn. I am keeping this as a last resort as it is not my phone and I can't find a good rooting guide.
2) Do a factory reset and when MTN sends the Internet settings, I don't install it.
3) Call MTN and ask them to deactivate the internet on his phone so only the Aftihost apn works.

Any thoughts of suggestions on a way to solve this issue.

Thankd

Delete the MTN APN, see if it returns.

If it's a MTN branded phone (i.e. MTN rom) then they might have put something in there that will revert it to the default setting.

1. Not recommended if the user is not an advanced user!
2. The APN's are built into the OS so this will have little effect!
3. Good luck even trying to explain this to them!

My recommendation is to find the cause and almost certainly due to:

A SIM change, i.e. popping a Cell C or Vodacom SIM in and then switching back to MTN. The myMTN APN will be selected by default.

The new Afrihost APN wasn't saved when it was set up?

The Leon is LTE and have you had the SIM provisioned by Afrihost for LTE? The LTE marking on the SIM only means it's provisioned for MTN LTE and not Afrihost!!

Have you made all of the OS updates from LG? Latest is Build number LRX21Y as far as I am aware...

I've been using a LG Leon LTE on Afrihost with no issues whatsoever!

Hi

unfortunately there is no option to delete or edit the mtn apn.

Hi

Thanks for the reply.

There was never a sim change. only one MTN sim has ever been used in the phone.

The aftihost apn was saved and selected. the data was even used. but it would revert back to mymtn.

The sim card has been provisioned for aftihost LTE but the phone network setting is set to 3g/2g.

The build number is confirmed to be LRX21Y.

This is really weird

Update: I managed to root it using kingroot. it was as simple as loading the app on the phone and clicking attempt root.

Now I plan to use apn backup and restore to delete all apbs and manually add the aftihost apn after

Just an update if anyone has the same issue. Just do the following.

1. Download the kingroot app to get root. Its a simple process and you don't need to attach your phone to a computer.
Note: Use this app at your own risk.
2. Use the following instructions to convert apn manager to a system app to delete all apn's and manually add the Aftihost apn

Hope this helps someone
