Afrihost billing issues

Hey guys

Have you ever received a stream of messages about so-called "ChargeBacks" on credit card payments to Afrihost?

The payments in question are more than 6 months old. Afrihost telephone support could tell me nothing helpful.

There is no evidence of my credit card balance decreasing, which I assume would happen if money were taken from Afrihost and returned to me.

If you've experience this problem, how did you resolve it? What can I check to see that this is not a scam?

I don't know what an affiliate link is, so I guess not. I just get a monthly capped ADSL & line bundle from Afrihost.

Since posting, I received another ChargeBack message, put my account some R 3000+ in arrears. But no corresponding change in credit card balance.
 
@ivesn I have the same problem since Wednesday, they started adding these "ChargeBacks" to my statement, so far they claim that I reversed over R2000 in charges.

Now that the account is showing as "overdue", they suspended the account without phoning or emailing to check what is going on.

Any chance your card was issued by Standard Bank?

Hi Norm

We're running an audit which runs through the chargebacks, we do this quite often.
If it's been done incorrectly you'll need to contact our Accounts team directly.
 
I have had the same thing, random chargebacks and now all services disabled.

Am with Standard Bank.

Submitted a ticket on the 19th at 1pm and have had no reply.
 
They suspended my account too.

I really don't understand why they do not take it up with their bank first, surely they want to know why it was charged back. Then when the bank cannot provide a reason it should ring alarm bells and perhaps contact the customer to see what it going on?

Afrihost want me to prove I did pay, so the only way I know was by sending through my card statements for 9 months. Now it is a wait and see game.

I was told it is mainly Standard Bank customers affected.

I've strongly suggested to Afrihost that it is a little unethical to cut my services without giving me a chance to sort out my account in a fair amount of time given that it is their system that has messed everything up.

They said that "Management" would not allow it and that I could only have access to my services once the full amount is paid.

That said, I will make payment and move EVERY service I have on Afrihost to another provider who may not pass on their idiotic accounts policies and mistakes onto their customers. It was a good 5 years Afrihost but kindly go **** yourselves.
