Ok so if I knew this was the case then i would not have transfered my line to Afrihost.

I'm moving house which is basically 800m from where I am and when i call Telkom to get the transfer done they say they can't do it because I have my line with Afrihost. I thought that Afrihost was just responsible for the ADSL portion and this would not impact my phone line portion.

So they say I must call Afrihost and then unbundle and move my line back to Telkom and then they can start the transfer of my line. I will then need to transfer my line back to Afrihost once done. Such a mission.

@Afriman, is this the case and why the complication? can you assist to make my life easier??

This is normal, and Telkoms way of screwing you. Its got nothing to do with Afrihost.

Huh? So why won't AH do the transfer on their own client's behalf?

They cant. The line has to be transferred back to telkom before the phone line can be moved. Telkom expects the line owner and not someone acting on their behalf to do this.

So then I need to call Afrihost and tell them to move me back to Telkom. Then wait for the transfer back. Call Telkom again to get the line transfer process started. Wait for that to happen. Then call Afrihost again to get the line back with them?

Is this the way to go about this? Thats time, potential billing issues, costs that I dont feel is necessary.

@Afriman, any word from your end?

That is correct.

As I said, blame telkom. Your alternative is to keep your line rental at Telkom and miss out on discounted bundles from Afrihost.

I own an ISP and I have to go through this :/ (Busy moving to a better house). For me it was quicker to cancel my old line and get a new one.

Sorry about the late reply.
I'm afraid this is right, I know it's a bit silly.

We can't assist with a physical line move - Telkom need to do this themselves.
There's an option to your ClientZone to cancel the line and relocate. The line will go back to Telkom. Once moved, give us a shout again and we can move the line back to us.

I called your call centre and the guy told me to choose the option that says cancel so thats what i did. Should I have chosen relocate? they were 2 seperate options. Did i do the right thing?

The cancellation button was the right thing to do, did you elect to cancel the entire DSL line though?
Maybe drop me a PM with your line number and I can see what's happening here.

Another reason why you should never give your ISP your line.

Ok, Afriguy...it is now the 5th and my line has still not been moved back to Telkom. I understand that you guys have no control over my line being transfered to a new location but you do have control over sending the line back to Telkom.

I called you guys before the end of the month and was promised that my line should be back with Telkom by the start of the month. I am now in my new location and I cannot even get Telkom to do anything until you guys send the line back to them.

Please let me know when this would happen as I am now left with no connectivity :(

Sorry about this :(
Line moves can take up to 14 days to complete, however no downtime is involved in this move.

Client's should be made aware of this potential pitfall.

Sure, there are benefits to having your ISP manage your line. But that gets outweighed pretty heavily by this kind of situation. Luckily, people aren't moving house every month for this to be a recurring issue.

I am happy I have stuck with Telkom for the line portion all these years. It has made moving from ISPs pretty easy as well xD

Ok so line moved back to Telkom. Everything working fine. Now I get a bill saying that I need to pay for ADSL installation. What gives? Is this correct?

@Afriguy, do I really need to pay for ADSL installation?

If this is the case then having a line with another provider is more of a pain that I ever thought.

There is an option with Telkom to have the line installed without an installation cost, you need to take a Weekender package or something along those lines.
