Afrihost CAPPED ADSL Feedback (MTN)

One now has to critically look at your usage, NNTP/torrents/streaming and what hours you need certain protocols to be working and then pick an ISP based on that.
Suggestions? NNTP isn't my primary use. I require rock solid low latency connectivity for work (8am to 12pm), secondary use is streaming with NNTP coming in after that.

I've been with Helkom - that was ... HELL; FNB Connect - Rubb!sh; Axxess - which had the same issues (at the time) being on the MTN backbone; Some dudes who Standard Bank sell - they weren't any good; WebAfrica - so so. Afrihost rocked so I went with them.

It sucks, I've recommended them to many people and had many referrals to them ...
Yep I have been as well.

I am in a similar boat, and considering either the CW capped package (400+free) or the WA Business Capped (300+1200)

Leaning more towards the WA Business since it is a business account and the CW packages are modeled around the WA home packages.

Anyone else having the same problem where it seems like downloads are being restricted/throttled from around 6PM every night? A 64MB file from Apple Appstore has been downloading for over 35min on a 8Mbps line.

Been like this 3 days in a row now.

Afrihost seems to be throttling things from Apple after the OSX and IOS update earlier this week

CW also have Business Capped as Standard and Premium accounts. Haven't tried them out but both Crystal Web and Web Africa use the same profiles for these accounts, except CW is a little cheaper and with better support. What I like about CW is that apart from these standard profiles, they also use their own custom shapers as well, so you've got access to IS profiles and custom profiles CW design and manage.

Websites are being slow and my ping is slowly rising. Can only mean 9 o'clock IPC crunch time.

Just connected using phone(Vodacom) and iptorrents loaded immediately. What is going on?

Seriously weird it's affecting JHB though. I thought this was contained to the South...like always.

EDIT:

It's getting worse XD

NNTP running between 0 and 1 KB/s on Afrihost capped, changing to WA results in 1 MB/s.

Used to always get consistant 2.3 MB/s on Afrihost capped until a couple months back.

So it's official? NNTP is now shaped on Afrihost Capped...
So much for the lure of 'unshaped' that was the very reason I moved from uncapped to capped.

I was literally getting 0KB/s the entire day and like clockwork, at 11pm, the floodgates opened and I was back at full speed.

Remember to do a trace route and speed test.

Same thing my side except my downloads are being shaped from 6-11PM while all other services like streaming, web browsing etc remain fine.

Afrihost why is this?
