Afrihost Capped DSL Feedback

I'm tearing my hair out on this one as well. It's a far more widespread issue than just Afrihost. Line stats are great, but having the same issues on Afrihost, Axxess, WA and Vox.

Some sites I visit frequently often load exceptionally slowly, don't finish loading, or don't load at all.

Sites like Youtube, MyBroadband, RARU, Loot, Takealot, Sharenet and quite a few others, are giving me constant intermittent loading issues.

I've ruled out my equipment by changing it out completely, tried alternative DNS servers, and even changed from ADSL2 to regular ADSL to see if that would work.

So far the only thing which completely "solves" the problem is using my 3G stick.

Speedtests and Tracerts all look perfect, so no faults to report.

My hands are tied, but it looks like I'm not alone in this. Lots of complaints, but nobody seems to know what's actually wrong. :(

Can add to this, having the same on Vox and on my Afrihost back-up.
Fiber 100Mbps, getting about 200-800Kbps in the evenings with a lot of packet loss/timeouts. Think there is an OpenServe issue.

Same here (Port Elizabeth). Speedtest, latency all seem fine, but web on PC's very sluggish at times, iPad's can be very slow to open games and websites etc.

Hey guys. Apologies for the delayed response. I'm not aware of any general issues over the weekend. Have you noticed any improvement in your connections since this morning or are you still experiencing problems? If you are, please feel free to PM me your usernames and I'll pass it onto our Network Team to investigate.

Like @Reign said, the problem spans further than just one ISP. Nobody seems to know what the problem is.

Maybe they've dug up the cable in the Mediterranean again but they've got no one to fix it so they're keeping quiet.

I'll pass this info onto our network team to see if they can dig deeper into this. :)

Thanks, looks like it's a Telkom issue though. Vox appears to have acknowledge it about 24 hours ago, at least for Cape Town and Surrounds.

As far as I can see, only Telkom DSL and Openserve Fibre customers are affected.

Right now everthing is working great though.

If I look at Axxess' notice board, it seems they got Openserve to fix the problem for everyone.

Anybody having issues in KZN? Connection is up but cannot browse, connect to services or games...

EDIT: Issue Resolved
EDIT2: Internationals seem to drop out every so often...

Glad to hear you're back online. :) Is international still a problem for you?

AfriSomeone, who's fault is this, Afrihost or Telkom ?

The upstream now shows 384 where it has always been 512 ?
This morning my modem crashed and reset itself that I had to enter all the ISP info in again from scratch and afterwards I noticed the above.

We don;t really have direct influence over your line stats. Your sync rate is subject to change based on Telkom's automated systems taking your line stats into account. We can, however, log issues on your line if it's managed by us. Drop me a PM and I'll help you out.

Thanks, first I'll email a friend here who works for Telkom and see what he can do.
With my line stats I should get max speed :)
