I'm in the process of moving my ADSL line back to Telkom and cancelling Mweb Uncapped (1mb).

I get by with between 30-40 gb's per month. Question now is - do I sign up for the 50gb or the 1mb Uncapped? Both are R199 but I assume the capped is unshaped? How big is the difference between the two? I mostly torrent and YouTube.

Thanks.

Yes capped is unshaped, offers 10 concurrent connections and full speed. If you are confident you won't use more than 50gb / month then capped is the better option.

This.

On a 1Mb line the breakeven point for uncapped is 50GB
On 2Mb, 75GB.
On 4Mb, 100GB.

The capped one, as mentioned, is unshaped and runs pretty smooth.

Thanks for considering us :)
Our Home Uncapped accounts are subjected to shaping when the network sees high load, but the shaping will only ever affect P2P and downloads. Your realtime services like browsing, streaming etc are left unaffected and unshaped.

If you are looking to torrent during the day the Capped account may be a better option for you.

Since you're only on 1meg take uncapped.

If you had a faster line then capped would make more sense.

For about R100 more you could get AH Business Uncapped which is also unshaped. Static IPs (if that's useful to you) are also available on the Business Uncapped accounts at an additional fee . You will only be allowed one connection though.

A question for Afriman:

I have been on 100Gb capped a for a few months now, this costs R463pm.

Afrihost recently reduced their capped prices, but I am still paying the same? If I were to cancel my current service and re-sign up, it would cost only R399pm.

Why not pass on the savings to your existing clients?

Instead of dropping your paying price, Afrihost decided to rather give you the balance of the data. They did say you can change it now if you want.

Hey Naks

We did indeed drop our prices - however existing clients saw a data increase on their monthly allowance, new sign ups would see the new pricing. This was done to eliminate any billing complications - and it's always awesome to have more data :)
