I've recently upgraded my cloud hosted solution to a Gold for increased memory and CPUs. The upgrade was completed last week, but I haven't checked and have received no complaints from anyone using the server.

I received an email this morning indicating "IP Bandwidth over Threshold". Now this happens from time to time when I do downloads, but I don't recalling doing any so it was a bit odd.

Upon attempting to log into my server I found it was no longer available. I had no choice but to call. After being on hold for 15 minutes I spoke to a call centre representative was involved in a DDoS attack. They claimed technicians were looking into it, yet I'd received no correspondence. They insisted I leave my number an would be contacted.

Finally an hour later I receive an email with a ticket indicating the issue had been resolved, though I am unsure which issue that was. I responded and let them know that a Java Container, IIS and a database were the only things running on the server, if there was an issue it would be due to malicious software.

That was four hours ago. I've emailed, tweeted and called. I've been told I'd be called back, once again. I've been denied access to the server to check.

This is unacceptable, I understand if there is an issue, but surely after this many hours I could at least have been given some feedback on what they issue is or what is going on. I've been without the server since early this morning, an would, at the very least, like to know something is actually being done!

Several issues with cloud hosting, and Afrihost's lack of communication, over the last few weeks are beginning to make me feel perhaps I need to consider alternatives. This cannot go on.

And more of the same today...

Thanks for the memories, but this isn't how you run a professional business!

I called them 3 months ago for a quote on their cloud. They told me to wait and i would be contacted, their cloud expert was not in at that moment. I guess he must still be on lunch.

Personally wanted to know how much IOPS i get on 2TB cloud storage... Maybe their still figuring it out O.o

Yup. Every time I make an upgrade to the server they tell me I will be contacted shortly. I never am. I eventually all a few days later and by some strange coincidence they're attending to my problem as we speak.

Flipping swak that AfriMan or no one from Afrihost hasn't even attempted to respond to this thread.

Are they leaving the Hosting business and becoming a DSL and Mobile ISP now only?

I'm not a client of theirs, but damn. We have some big business accounts and this shows I can't even consider them in future if I need a new provider, since hosting would be a requirement.

Bad form.

Did you ever get any feedback phaktza?

Eventually they gave up and I had to reinstall a while server. After emailing, phoning and tweeting repeatedly.

I kept getting replies along the lines of "you must understand...". I do understand! These things happen, it's not ideal, but it's also no one's fault.

What I am upset about is the lack of communication and feedback, sometimes for days. Yet no apologies or improvement in service in this regard.

This complaint has had the benefit of being contacted and provided with alternative hosting options should the Afrihost solution become untenable.

These recent Afrihost complains are really weird. I've always had a response to my queries within a few hours, a day for issues that were escalated.

It's obvious what happened here - the server got "infected" / compromised, and they probably pulled the plug due to the risk of "whatever" spreading throughout their network.

What are the "you must understand..." responses you received?
