Flooding in the Western Cape, lives lost, massive infrastructure damage: I would like to congratulate Afrihost on keeping their DSL Network Status Page saying "Everything is looking good! There are no DSL problems to report at this moment". That exclamation mark really sells it, and stops me falling into a slough of despond. And I really hate that slough.

Hi.
We're sorry for the trouble you're having. Openserve does not notify us of area outages. However, we can view any related Network faults linked to the service when we query it with Openserve.

You are welcome to send me a PM with your DSL line number or email address so I can query the line's status and follow up with openserve.

Thank you for your kind offer. I have sent what I hope is enough detail.

I suspect there is not much you can do in the current circumstances, but I think of a "Status Page" as a place to be informed that skilled, highly trained and dedicated operators are toiling to solve my problem. When that status page tells me "All is well!", it feels as if no-one has even noticed the problem. I'm glad I don't need it to persuade a boss that I'm not just going AWOL. So, it's mostly about the feels.

If only you weren't so excellent at being an agent of entropy, these calamities would not follow you wherever you went ...

Ah, well, such is life ...

;) ;)
