Afrihost does MANUAL BILLING?!

I am beyond angry with Afrihost now. I downgraded to a 1Gb account since billing was a bos-up last month. This thread refers:
http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?218648-Afrihost-usage-stats-broken

Now AGAIN, the stats are totally wrecked. It seems they are wanting to bill me for 40Gb over usage?!
According to my usage stats, I have used 13Gb this month. How does 40 get pulled out of the hat? And I am apparently capped.
Eish Afrihost... come on now.

OMW, looking at my raw logs, it seems someone has done manual adding up here:
http://mybroadband.co.za/photos/data/500/untitled213.JPG

Whats happened is that the cumulative total for the last 3 days of the month has been put in the daily total for those days and then ADDED to the cumulative total by the system, resulting in me being that much over my cap!

The same thing happened at the end of last month - NO WONDER Afrihost needs the last 5 days of the month for billing... they do it MANUALLY!

They have a AUTO billing system that does not work, they can hardly make manual changes to it. So the system keeps on overriding what they do manually. Their cheap Bandwidth are becoming a burden due to their SAD SACK accounting system.

None of you mind the "cheap" bandwidth tough ? Right?

I do, hence my downgrade to 1Gb. It's not cheap bandwidth when they cut you off for two days in the month and you have to waste your time getting online and trying to fix it. It costs me more in hours lost - I am currently with Mweb. Using Afrihost as backup - except that I found I am 'capped' after trying to use it today... time to trash it altogether. I do believe in having a gig backup elsewhere, but this time I will not have that gig with afrihost. I really want to thank afrihost for what they have done to BB in SA but I cant keep my account with them unfortunately.

Wow, thats a massive discrepancy. Total GB purchased = 22, Used = 13 odd. Why would you purchase additional GB if you still had left over?

No - that total purchased was partly their trying to fix the error from last month (see my top thread). They did the same thing last month - it was because of an automated billing system glitch that was 'fixed' manually, except that the manual fix was bossed up. They added gigs after I complained bitterly for two days that I couldn't get on because of their mess up... it took them that long to realise the fault was theirs and another couple of days to identify and fix the issue.

Nobody is perfect in this world.

Nope, but when I get messed around three times in just over a month, I reckon it's time to go elsewhere. I would have no leg to stand on if I merely whinged yet did nothing about it. I have tried the 'channels' but don't have days to wait for a response as before (see my thread referred to in my first post). I wish Afrihost all the best and hope they succeed for all our sakes.

UNBELIEVABLE!

I just got this reply from Farad at Afrihost regarding this issue:
I trust that you are well.:)

From our side it shows that you approx 50meg, was used on the current months bandwidth allocation,What i can advise is to have a look at the raw data logs in the client-zone, to see if bandwidth from the end of march was exceeded.Normally what happens, if the bandwidth is exceeded for the last month, the amount exceeded is deducted from the new bandwidth allocation.
Have a great day & please feel free to let me know if I can be of further assistance.
I can't believe these guys don't actually check their raw logs and session information to confirm. This is beyond a joke. Doing it to a client once is bad enough, but doing exactly the same thing the following month is ridiculous. This account has become a liability and is consting me more in phonecalls and time.

My response:
NO Farad, what I suggest is that AFRIHOST look at my raw logs and session information to see where they MESSED UP AGAIN!... Come on, don't tell me you have done it already because it is OBVIOUS that it's ANOTHER Afrihost error. It's time to call it quits I think, really now, with a response like this you can't expect me to be patient anymore. Let me tell you what the raw logs show since you obviously didn't look at them:

Three days from the end of the month, my monthly cumulative total of 13 gigs becomes my daily total (do the maths and add the previous days cumulative total to the daily up/down and you will see that the daily total is in fact the cumulative total, NOT the daily total). This happened for the last three days. As a result, my monthly cumulative total was (for three days) added to the daily total and my usage was out by one huge amount.

BESIDES, how does Afrihost work if one is able to go 40 meg over the cap allocation? Please respond asap.
I have cancelled my account and feel alot better now. I can get on with my life and find another backup ISP.

Gian / Brendan, please get involved and sort this out

This is unbelievable - mainly because the client is made to do the investigations and point out the facts when Afrihost mess up. Here is the response from Afrihost support to my last email (see above). Obviously I'm not interesting enough for Gian to answer my PMs:

I trust that you are well.:)

Please can you use the following link to compare the stats to our raw data logs from the 12st to 31March. You can also go back to february to to see how much data was used as well.
http://userstats.adsl.saix.net.

please advise.
Have a great day & please feel free to let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Warm regards.

Here is my next response.
Faraad, those stats are obviously messed up. Firstly, I apparently haven't used much of my 1Gb allowance for April according to my Afrihost usage stats. I can confirm that since my uncapped MWEB account has been active this month and the afrihost account may have been used very intermittently.

Further, on the SAIX usage page (link you sent me):

Date: 01-APR-10
Session: 2
Online time (seconds) 2082
Upload: 493 358
Download: 11 529 246
Total: 12 022 604

Thats 12 gigs in just over 30 minutes and we all know that's not possible on the best South African ADSL product.

In addition, please take a look at my session information, confirming that I haven't been logged in since last month and that my total usage for last month is 13Gb (and not 50Gb as stated in the broken Afrihost usage):
Con login logout data
2 28-Mar 29-Mar 1.618
4 28-Mar 28-Mar 0.46
1 28-Mar 28-Mar 0.049
3 28-Mar 28-Mar 0.04
5 28-Mar 28-Mar 0.171
7 25-Mar 25-Mar 0.004
8 22-Mar 22-Mar 0.007
9 21-Mar 22-Mar 0.59
10 20-Mar 21-Mar 0.198
11 17-Mar 20-Mar 0.059
12 14-Mar 17-Mar 1.646
14 11-Mar 14-Mar 0.63
13 11-Mar 11-Mar 0.018
15 8-Mar 11-Mar 2.741
16 5-Mar 8-Mar 3.88
17 4-Mar 5-Mar 0.577
18 26-Feb 1-Mar 0.613
TOTAL 13.301 Gb

As for February, please refer to my previous ticket which was determined to be an Afrihost billing issue - also please confirm with the billing department as to how much data I was billed for.
Note that I am putting in my own time here to help Afrihost identify an issue with the billing system, as I had to do last month. My account is now cancelled so you thankfully won't have to deal with my account in future. As for this Afrihost mistake, please advise ASAP.

And to add to the above, the raw data usage according to Afrihost from the 25 March to today (4 April) is:
Date Download (MB) Upload (MB) Total (MB) Balance (MB)
3/25/2010 8.132.........7.394................15.526..............15.526
3/26/2010 4.595.........0.517................5.111................20.637
3/27/2010 5.864.........0.54..................6.404...............27.041
3/28/2010 773.502......666.937............1440.439..........1467.48
3/29/2010 323.127......222.119............545.247............2012.727
3/30/2010 0.104..........0.156...............0.26.................2012.986
3/31/2010 0.074..........0.164...............0.238...............2013.224
4/1/2010 10.995........0.471...............11.466..............2024.69
4/3/2010 0.324..........0.21.................0.535...............2025.225

Thats a total of 2Gb of which 90% happened on 28/29 March... eish mense...

My advice to Afrihost subscribers is to check your raw logs and session information if you suspect problems.

I got this response from Afrihost:
In February. there was a topup special that was done for 10GB, & was never used.

It is unlikely that both the stats from afrihost & saix are wrong. You can laise with our accounts dept. in relation to the billing.
Have a great day & please feel free to let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Warm regards.

Faraad
HUH? Topup special? February?
My response:
Faraad - you obviously forgot my February issue altogether - you dealt with it up to a point, then Brendan took over - this issue I raised has nothing to do with it. In February my issue is that at the end of the month I was told that I had used 30Gb more than what I had purchased. I was capped for two days at the beginning of March as a result. Eventually Brendan sorted me out by loading additional bandwidth while he figured out what had happened. It turned out to be a manual billing issue - someone allocated my usage incorrectly. That was eventually sorted.

About the usage stats - SAIX and Afrihost usage stats don't even agree, so I'm not sure what you mean by "It is unlikely that both the stats from afrihost & saix are wrong."
Afrihost says my usage is 76Mb for April while SAIX says 12Gb.
The SAIX stats are messed up as I said, 12Gb in 30 minutes requires a line with capability of around 50-100Mbps. I have 4Mbps. Please explain why you think this is accurate?

Either way, it seems my Afrihost stats are OK again and so far I haven't received a bill for the 'extra' 40Gb I was supposed to have used last month. If Afrihost prefers to remain ignorant of these discrepancies then I am fine with that but I hope someone notes the reason for my leaving Afrihost.

You should be grateful for this "uncapped" product, so what if your bandwidth usage is incorrect, give them a fair chance, they are the best isp :D

Hmmm do I detect a hint of sarcasm :p
What 'uncapped' product? Oh, the one where they forgot to cap me? Or the one where they capped me when I hadn't even used all my bandwidth?
