Afrihost Gaming PPTP [alpha]

Using ExitLag GUI to see the pings we get to Singapore (Asia).

Looks like Durban PPTP gives 142ms to ExitLag server SG Singapore05

CT PPTP gives 162ms to SG Singapore05

Normal Afrihost over Openserve gives 125ms

Using ExitLag to see the pings we get to Bahrein (Middle East). BH Manama01

Durban PPTP : 147ms

CT PPTP: 168ms

Normal Afrihost over Openserve: 122ms

Edit: spelling

This is mostly because Unitas Global started announcing more of their Asia prefixes at NAP JHB.

Check I updated the list with Middle East as well. Reloading ExitLag each time I switched connection to rebuild the links so it gives proper answer to latency.

Edit: that Bahrein link over vanilla afrihost is a beauty.

This ExitLag is nice at visualizing the different routes. Posting these images for interest's sake. These are all regular vanilla afrihost over Openserve at Parys, Free State.

This Madrid link is cool, first I've seen it to Portugal this low.

Yeah, I also got exitlag to see how it works and see it chains servers up to get those latencies. It's not something a network can just do unfortunately.

Also tested with Mullvad vpn which have South African CDN77 servers. They use Angola cables. Low latency routes to Asia and South America but the rest like EU is bad.

That 118ms is SICK, where's that? Brazil, damn that's good.

I still want to know where the hell ExitLag is going that it gets 165ms to Frankfurt from JHB, everyone else is at least 15 or 20ms more.

First off, @AfriNatic.

Thank you so much for your efforts with this, this is really above and beyond from an ISP.

I play Escape from Tarkov and it is no secret that ZA servers just die out completely within 2-3 months after each wipe, so good luck finding players. They recently upped the ping limit from the old 180ms to 200ms, so that means I could barely play on EU servers, but I have since tried the Durban PPTP (where I am) and it definitely makes a noticeable difference.

What I would really really like and hopefully it can be done is to get that juicy routing to Singapore and Dubai. On exitlag (which I have issues with) I get about 125ms ping test and about 150ms in game, which is a far better experience than EU. So if there is a wishlist for this, it would be to get that Singapore route.

Some screenshots of ping on normal connection and then using Durban PPTP.

Thanks again for the awesome service.

Great stuff. Once the JHB server is up I will work with our transit provider to steer traffic the best we can.

Unfortunately, these IP's are part of our bigger ip blocks and specific announcements might not be possible but I will get there once JHB is up and running.

Okay but these PPTP links don't reduce latency at all, in fact they do the opposite, am I missing something here? Just lost a hardcore (permadeath) character on Classic WOW thanks to three disconnects in a row and ping being 5000+ms (didn't have exitlag on), shouldn't have to pay for exitlag just to have a stable connection, man, ffs.

The CPT server is not happy right now:

Edit: and it's back to normal.

Not even an afrihost client.
Currently with coolideas and I've basically reached my cap.

I've had packet loss internationally with them for about a year now. It kind of happens whenever it feels like it.

Can anyone here on afrihost give me an indication of whether or not they experience similar issues here.

Preferably jhb users on the vuma aerial network.

Please, if you can just give me an idea of what your experience has been like. Even without using the VPN above. Just standard afrihost.

I'd really appreciate it.

You might have more luck posting in the Afrihost feedback thread.

Might do, figured this is where the gamers are uniting

Ping is around 30ms higher on Afrihost than Cool Ideas for me from Pretoria. Very little packet loss on Afrihost, though. Definitely notice it on Cool Ideas.

You can try something like ExitLag to see if you still get packet loss.
