Afrihost is Killing Our Business

I have no more words left to describe our absolute disgust and discontent with Afrihost. Our dedicated server has been down since last week Monday, some services were restored on Friday (very limited), no feedback has been given as to what caused the problem and the server has been completely offline again since yesterday. Support does not respond and no one answers their phones. We are completely dead in the water, we have no access to our server to do anything, we are losing money by the hour and no one gives a crap. How can they be trusted with anyone’s business!?

It is Disgusting, and the so called Afriman support guy on forums doesn't even get back to his PM's.Even though he has time to furiously debate and defend how good his company is.
Afrihost is literally going down the toilet service wise!!

So the latest news from Afrihost (this after being down for more than a week):

We see that the corruption came from the OS, not from the Hardware, After testing of the hardware, Everything checked out fine.

They are not taking any responsibility for the OS because it's an "un-managed" server (with managed being an additional paid service but for which they do not take any responsibility).
Some of our data was restored but a lot seems to have been lost.
They are prepared to give us the drives so we can try to do our own extraction.

There is almost no point in running drives in RAID and no point in having back-ups with Afrihost.

Raid prevents against disk failures. So (for example) if you have 4 drives in raid 10, you can lose 2 and still remain running (provided it's not 2 from the same mirror set).

I am not sure why Afrihost lists "Primary Backup" as Raid 1 on their product page for Dedicated Servers as raid is not a backup technology it is a hardware redundancy. Raid does not replace the need to have proper backups and does not prevent against OS file system errors or URE's (Unrecoverable Read Errors).

I do however see that they do provide FTP backup storage and if your server is un-managed, then it would be your responsibility to make backups of your server and FTP them to the backup storage. File system errors do occur, software does crash, this is the reality Servers and hardware, backups should always be the highest priority because you won't need them until you need them.

Alternatively choose a dedicated server provider that offers a managed backup solution where they do gaurentee the backup data and offer things like Bare-Metal Restores.
